Roger at the National Movie Awards

Postby Amber on Sat Sep 29, 2007 7:34 pm

While watching the National Movie Awards on tv, being broadcast from London  this evening, who should walk on stage, to a great reception from the audience but Roger Moore! What a wonderful surprise, because he wasn't named in the tv listings to appear.:smt007

He came on to present a Lifetime Achievement Award, and began talking about his role as James Bond. He said he missed being Bond, missed the money, (he said with a smile),   missed the family atmosphere, and most of all, missed Cubby Broccoli. Everyone applauded this, and the camera went onto Judi Dench, who plays "M."  He praised Daniel Craig, and said he saw "Casino Royale" on his DVD player.

Lots of clips of Bond movies, past and present were then shown. When they ended, Roger  said the award goes to Barbara Broccoli, Cubby's daughter, who is carrying on the good work from her father, and Michael G. Wilson, Cubby's step-son, who has also worked on many Bond movies. I liked how the orchestra played "Nobody Does It Better" as they walked up to the stage to receive it.

Before they reached it, Roger said "Barbara is my favourite Bond lady." They all made a big fuss of each other on stage, and all the while, as Michael was making his acceptance speech, Barbara was holding Roger tight, linking his arm.

Michael was saying nice things about all the Bonds, and Roger gave Barbara a fun smile. When walking off stage together, Barbara was still holding Roger tightly.

Depending on how successful I was at getting my video player to work at short notice, I'll be able to get some pics. If not, I feel sure that there will be pics in next weeks copy of "Hello" which I'll post.

Roger looked and sounded great, as always. :smt007

Here's more info:

Roger said "It's an amazing testament to the appeal of the character. In the world of "Spiderman 3"  and "Diehard 4"  you could have seen "James Bond 21." Yes the lad has come of age.

It's 22 years since I was last paid for saying 'My name is Bond.'

In those 22 years I've done a lot of interviews, and I've been asked generally the same questions. 'Who is your favourite Bond girl?'  'Have you seen Daniel Craig?' Do you miss being James Bond?'  Yes, I miss Cubby Brocolli, he was a lovely man to work for, and Daniel Craig - Yes, and I'll tell you quite frankly he was terrific."

At this point we should see some of the other guys who got to play 'Jim.'"

Here's some pics of Roger, Barbara Brocolli, and Michael G. Wilson.  The other fella in the pics is the tv presenter of the evening.
