The Persuaders TV Series

"The Persuaders"  -  a hugely enjoyable tongue-in-cheek tv series. The partnership worked so well I think, because  of Roger's  and Tony's  very different temperments. The way that ad-libs bounced back and forth between them all added to the fun.

Which episode was your particular favourite?

I liked it except for Rog's hair. Too long too blond.  :smt018  :smt003 The show was a lot more lighthearted than The Saint. My favorite episode has got to be the very first "Overture". The car race was exciting. Also their first meeting and metting the judge. Who was that actor who played the judge, he was so charming and funny? I like persuaders for beautiful locations and magnificent color. They dont make shows like that anymore.  :smt010

I loved Roger's  hair in the show. it reminded me of how he looked in the movie "Gold Of The Seven Saints" before his "Saint" days.  Shows off his blue eyes wonderfully. :smt007

The actor who played the judge was Laurence Naismith.

My favourite has got to be "A Death In The Family" with Roger playing some of his relatives too. Hilarious when he became "Aunt Agatha."

Another favourite was "Greensleeves" and the rapport between Lord Sinclair and Danny, when the latter became his butler was magic!

I also loved the ones Roger directed, they were so well done.

I like Roger's hair the best in The Saint, both the colour and the style. My favourite episode of The Persuaders is probably "That's Me Over There". When the two were trying to imitate each other's accents and were doing such a lousy job of it, it was extremely funny.

It would be great to be able to discuss each episode, with its flaws and attributes same way we do Bond movies. And do the same with The Saint, too. I can imagine that if we do this, eventually, we'll have to turn Roger TV section into several separate forums. Wouldn't you like to see this in the near future?

That was a memorable episode, Amber! And it looked like Roger had fun making it. Not like he gets to wear a ladys wig and a dress every day :smt002  :smt002

It was wonderful too, seeing Ivor Dean  (Inspector
Teal from The Saint) in that one, as the very solemn funeral director.

It looked like everyone was having a good time.

How about right at the very end when Tony Curtis appeared as one of his female relatives? Of course he's no stranger to dressing up - remember "Some Like It Hot?"

Sunny, I love your suggestion about discussing all  episodes of "The Persuaders."

Great pic Kendall, Roger looked very convincing.

To be 100% honest with you, I have to admit that I have a sort of "love-hate relationship" with "The Persuaders". On the one hand, I love the idea of two adventurers from completely different backgrounds helping a retired judge perform justice where the law has overlooked. But I think that they got away from this concept. Instead of working on old cases or being sent by the judge to do their investigations, the two started discovering all sorts of dead bodies and getting themselves into unlikely trouble. Many plots had enough holes in them to shake a stick at. I can understand why Brett would have all the time in the world to spend on advertures, but what about Danny's job of running his multi-million dollar companies? Where did he find the time to be an idler and at the same time keep up with the business?

But overall, it was an enjoyable show for pure entertaining purposes, though I still don't get it why so many people say that "The Persuaders!" were ahead of their time"? That I don't understand. Got an opinion?

I'm not sure why it's decribed as ahead of it's time as I've always seen it as very much representing it's era. However, that is not a bad thing by any means and it was certainly a very good show - not my favourite of the era, that accolade will always go to Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) - but I do adore The Persuaders and it will forever be amongst my affections.

The part I like the most about the show is the colorful locations. I, too, think the concept was interesting. But I am so used to the way Roger was in The Saint that it is sometimes painful for me to watch him in The Persuaders, and, believe it or not, I actually prefer the character of Danny Wilde to Brett Sinclair. The 70's styles were mentioned before, and I have to agree that people looked cleaner and more polished in the 60's. I liked The Saint's car better than Brett's, Simon seemed faster and smarter than Brett, the dialog in The Saint was better, and I liked Roger's overall looks in the Saint.
I maybe wrong, but it also looked as if Roger wasn't into the show as much as he was in The Saint. It was mentioned that he was getting tired of television and only agreed to do the Persuaders because he was "persuaded". But all that said, it's still an enjoyable series to watch, and the chemistry between the two actor is something I miss after having watched the entire series.
