Roger's Six Best Albums

In the UK daily newspaper "The Express" Roger is asked to name his best 6 albums:

Tony Bennet: The Essential Tony Bennett

"This contains some of the greatest ballads, including 'The Good Life'and 'I Left My Heart In San Francisco. It's wonderful, easy listening and very relaxing to have on in the background, while I sit on my terrace with a glass of wine on the mild summer evenings in Monaco. I've been a Bennett fan since first arriving in New York in 1953 and hearing 'Rags To Riches' on the radio and thinking he was a brilliant singer."

Julian Rachlin: Tchaikovsky - Concerto For Violin & Orchestra In D Minor

"I adore classical music and particularly chamber music. A few years ago at a party hosted by Lily Safra in the South of France, this young talented violinist played. He was accompanied at the piano by his mother and played like an angel. He has since become a good friend."

The Mama & The Papas: Greatest Hits

"I particularly like 'Monday Monday' and 'California Dreaming' which takes me back to my days in California, where I once was a dreamer as a young hopeful actor. I love their harmonies. They're easy to listen to and often find myself humming their tunes all day long."

Frank Sinatra: My Way - The Best of Frank Sinatra

"I had the great privelege of knowing Sinatra from way back in the 60's. We spent many holidays together and I'd often travel to see him in concert - he was an amazing performer. Towards the end of his life Frank's hearing became impaired and I was amazed that he was always on cue. He told me that he 'felt the music' through his feet. He was the most extraordinary phraser of a song and every one he sang was an entire three-act play from beginning to end."

Janine Jansen: Vivaldi - The Four Seasons

"Played by Dutch born Janine Jansen. Her playing is positively angelic and takes me to another sphere. I love Vivaldi's music. It's inspirong, energising and helps me to feel creative. It was lovely to have it on in the background while I was writing my book."

Bruch & Mendelssohn: Violin Concertos

"Another classical album and the nearest thing to heaven you can imagine. I first heard it about five years ago and was enchanted. I investigated further and believe it to be the most magical music to listen to. When I put it on it takes me to another world. Utopia!"
