Sir Roger Moore eyes Midsomer Murders role, as a victim

Postby Sunny on Wed Aug 16, 2006 5:20 pm

Since not all SM members live in the UK, maybe some of our English friends can tell more about this show?

Former James Bond star Sir Roger Moore wants to meet a grisly end in hit ITV1 cop drama Midsomer Murders - reports The Sun.

John Nettles who plays DCI Tom Barnaby in the show, told us: “Roger Moore has expressed his interest in playing a murder victim.

“The trouble is how could we kill Roger Moore, it would be like killing God?

“I think he’s a fan of the show so we’ll see what develops.”

Sir Roger, 78, is currently filming a voice-over for new animated movie Agent Crush with Ewan McGregor. His last on-screen acting role was four years ago in the film Boat Trip with Cuba Gooding Jr.

Midsomer Murders is a worldwide hit for ITV and has been sold to 222 countries and territories. It returns for a tenth series with the 50th episode on September 10.

Other well-known guest stars in the show have included Orlando Bloom as well as ex-Bond Girls Honor Blackman and Samantha Bond.

This is John Nettles (on the left) with his side-kick. Together they try to solve murder and mayhem that goes on around the  fictional sleepy little village area of Midsomer Worthy. I read that Dame Judi Dench - who plays "M" in the Bond movies -  has also expressed interest in appearing. Maybe she and Roger could play a married couple who carry out some nasty crime, and come to a grizzly end!

Looks like Roger never got to appear on the show after all, or did he?

"Midsomer Murders" has been running for several years and still going strong, so Roger might  yet get the chance to be in it one day.

I am a big fan of Midsomer Murders, so I hope our hero DOES get a guest spot on it.

Here's an update to the story:

According to the June 22nd edition of the "Sunday Express"  series producer Brian True-May had this to say on the launching of the 11th series of "Midsomer Murders"

"We have a dream list of actors we'd like to have. Apparantly Johnny Depp and Roger Moore are interested, and I asked Michael Caine when I met him and he didn't say no. It would be great to get him in a cameo role, maybe together with Roger Moore representing opposing factions in the village."

Wow, wouldn't that be something! :smt004

The show nearly always features wealthy people who live in big old country houses, but behind the artificial facades lurks dark secrets.

The main character played by John Nettles, solves crimes by being methodical and fair. The stories usually have a number of false leads, and meander on to their conclusion. No screeching car chases, just logical and clever detective work.

Hi Nelly

Yes it is classier than CSI anything, but the Brits do classier crime thrillers in my opinion.

I have been a fan of the show for years and am in the process of collecting all the dvds of the series (from my newsagent, it is cheaper than buying the box set here).

I think to have RM and MC in an ep in opposing villages or whatever would be brilliant. And even though I don't like the thought of having RM play a victim and be killed off, at least it would give his acting skills more of a challenge. I mean we know he's a gr8 actor, but I don't remember seeing him in anything where he's been the victim.

The new series started last night, and Goodnight007.2, you won't be disappointed, it was very good.

I would love to see Roger play a baddie in the show, maybe someone aristocratic who has a dark secret, and does lots of things to make sure his secret doesn't come out.

I always get the feeling that deep down Roger would have loved to be a baddie, and I think he'd be very good if he did the show, whatever part he plays.

Thanks for the info Amber, they have started playing it on tv here on Saturday nights. But I have seen most of those (on dvd)so I just pick up my dvds of the series every second week and watch them, because I want to keep the series and maybe watch it again sometime. I can always sell it if I get tired of it.

I totally also agree about RM being a baddie. In many interviews he has said it is more fun to be a baddie than a goodie. :smt003
