Here are some pics and comments from the show Roger did. Roger was sitting inside and outside "La Colombe D'Or" Restaurant, one of his favourite eating haunts.
Gloria: "You are one of the biggest sex-symbols in the world, how do you live up to it?"
Roger: "I pretend I'm Sean Connery!"
Roger spoke about how Audrey Hepburn first got him interested in Unicef, and from then on he was hooked. A female executive from the charity spoke very highly of him and the hard work he carries out. Roger said "I'm giving something back for all the good things that have happened in my life."
Gloria commented on Roger being an only child. He replied with a big smile "My parents achieved perfection the first time around, why should they try again?" He spoke very affectionately about his parents, and in particular what a gifted man his father was in many ways.
He spoke about his early days attending RADA, where he met his first wife Doorn. "Doorn was lovely but we were far too young, it didn't work out. We spent a lot of time working apart. That's part of the reason why the marriage broke up - usually one of the reasons for any marriage break-up. We were together for 5 years, and she went through my whole struggle of trying to make a career for myself."
Gloria: "Marriage to Dorothy Squires attracted a lot of publicity over the years, some of it very contraversial. Where did you meet?"
Roger: "We met at a party at her house. I was suddenly introduced to a world I'd never met before." (He said that by this time he and Doorn were drifting apart and the marriage was almost over).
Gloria: "How did you feel regarding her success?"
Roger: "One could not fail to be impressed by her, to watch her perform and and see the depths of her talent. It was quite extraordinary." He went on say that he and Dorothy did a pantomime together (British traditional stage show at Christmas, based on well-known fairy-tales and including music dancing and comedy.) He sang a little of one of the songs to Gloria that he sang in it - "Making Whoopie." She joined in with him, both laughing.
Roger talked about when he went to Hollywood with Dorothy, his early movies and tv series. He had a lot of fun making "Ivanhoe" and said "It was really a gas."
This pic was shown during the show of Roger and Dorothy taken in Hollywood. Is that Carroll Baker on the right?
