Punk is always a genre of music that I've wanted to get into but couldn't, so I want to change that.
I'm looking for something old school, ie 80s sounding. Love the production. Very fast and angry but still very coherent. Maybe something like The Sex Pistols...but different. Maybe even some of DRI's early stuff, except their early stuff lacks in the ''coherency'' department, as well, ahah, very different. But help me out here, reccomend me something _________________ NU-MOD
Bad Religion - Against the Grain
Black Flag - Damaged
Have helped me get into the punk genre. Very basic, straightforward and catchy stuff. Also, get The Clash - London Calling if you want something more progressive and varied.
Very fast and angry? Hm. Can´t help you there. I was going to say the Misfits, which are quite fast, most of the time, but they´re not the angry political type of band. But horrorpunk is fun.
Black Flag is indeed a must so I'm certainly going to second Emp's rec. You can also check Johnny Thunders And The Heartbreakers which is indeed very 80s sounding but leans a lot towards glam. Propagandhi are good for something fast, angry, metallic and a bit progressive. For faster stuff you could check some of the earliest Crust bands like Aus-Rotten (Amebix are also recommended but I have to inform you that their song structure is weird). The Descendents and Fugazi are good for something more melodic that borders Rock rather than Metal (well, Fugazi are the precursors of emo but don't be afraid to try them). Stay away from Crass though. They're very good imo but they're the synonymous of incoherency.
