So I was going through the forums based on genre and saw a bunch of odd things:
* Punk and metalcore being together. There's a big number of things wrong with that, but I'll only state the obvious: why is it that metal has 10 forums, while punk only gets 1? Why metalcore? I mean, wouldn't it be more logical to have a punk one and then a hardcore/metalcore one?
* Why is that under alternative rock anyway? Perhaps you should have thought things through before launching this into the public. FYI: Alternative rock emerged decades after punk, making the insinuation that punk belongs to alt rock laughable and perhaps even a bit ridiculous.
* Same thing with hard rock. Well perhaps that's just a joke. Right? RIGHT?!
* Why do "goth" and "industrial" get their own section, while genres that are a lot bigger and more important don't? It seems rather random to me.
* Why is darkwave under goth? Last time I checked, darkwave is a form of ambient music and not a subgenre of gothic (though it contains goth elements).
* Why does goth metal gets it's own forum, while speed metal doesn't? You can't honestly believe the latter is less of a valid genre than the first.
Being the critical asshole that I am, I can't help but advise you to educate yourselves in regards to music history before starting a forum about it. The choice of genres to include seems rather random and inconsistent. But -more annoying- some things are just plain wrong. Not wrong as in "I don't agree", but wrong as in "open a history book".

Metalcore has it's roots in hardcore punk for one. Deathcore for example is a subdivison of Metalcore. Metalcore is generally viewed by me as being more hardcore punk related. While there are bands that are more "Metal" then "core" I wanted to avoid potentially upsetting people. Grindcore is a bit harder because while it's related to punk it's also related to death metal but some people don't except it as death metal unless it's deathgrind. There are 10 Metal forums because the idea of the forum was for it to be more related to metal related then any of the other things. Of course honestly I didn't really want a Punk or Metalcore forum. So it wasn't my idea.

"Alternative Rock" seemed like a broad term to be that could encompass a lot of things but I understand where you're coming from. We can always change it to Rock. Would that would be more acceptable?

Wrong. Darkwave is a mixture of New Wave and Post-Punk. Bands incorporate a dark atmosphere into their music.
Examples: The Cruxshadows (early), Switchblade Symphony.

That can always be changed I have no problem with that. It seems you're misinterpreting some things as us saying that other genres are less valid then others when that is hardly the case. Perhaps some things are mislabeled but these are easily changed. Also I rarely hear the term "Speed Metal" used in reference to a lot of bands.
As always I appropriate the feedback. The pretentious attitude I do not.

Alternative rock was actually just a way of pointing out a seperation from metal, not in reference to actual alternative rock (I can understand why you'd want this changed). However, other solutions will be considered if they are brought up.
Punk and metalcore are related, and we wanted to group them together because A. As you can see, there's a whole fucking lot of forums here (understatement of the year) and B. We're trying to reach an alternative crowd, and punk didn't seem incredibly alternative to one of us (with some exceptions). Also, metalheads tend to get their panties in a bunch when metalcore is included in the genre they love.
About hard rock, we didn't want to seperate it from the other rock genres in the alternative rock section, but we also understand that it is different from the rest of the genres under the alternative rock section at the same time. For now, we think it's a bit pointless to have a category for 1 genre. If you have a solution to remedy the problem, that would help out a lot. We're actually very confused on this one ourselves.
Also, could you care to elaborate on these other genres that are under-done?
Speed metal was something we forgot. I shall add it soon, thanks for mentioning that.
And to answer the question of why darkwave is under goth: the reason for this is that it fits with the goth culture itself and the creation of various gothic genres. We didn't feel a need to create a whole category for all types of ambient music. Unless it becomes an issue in the future, the Other Music section will suffice.

Everybody knows all those things, what's your point?

Ok so what you're saying is that you pick the genres as you wish, without any consistent reasoning behind it?

Well obviously, because that would actually make sense.

Wrong. Darkwave is a mixture of New Wave and Post-Punk
Oh, that darkwave. (I was thinking of dark ambient, which is also referred to as darkwave) Disregarding that, it still shouldn't be put under gothic because it's not based on gothic. A portion of goth influence does not make a genre gothic.

I think you guys should have thought things through a bit better before putting this out in the public.

... what you're implying is that alternative rock is a term used for things that are not metal? I don't think you should add definitions to established terms. Though the idea seems tempting. From now on I shall use the word "pear" to all fruits that are not apples.

What exactly is your definition of "alternative"? Metalcore is a hell of a lot more mainstream then punk, if that's what you're trying to say. I guess all the punk you know is MTV pop-punk crap ... real punk is about as "alternative" as it can get.

Uh .... rename "alternative rock" to "rock"??? You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

Stoner rock, rap, the main electronic genres, etc. etc.

One founder says it refers to dark ambient, while the other says it refers to the new wave/post-punk hybrid. This is getting confusing.
Well I like hearing suggestions and opinions from others. As long as they are given in the right tone. Your attitude is unnecessary it doesn't really help get your point across but rather get in the way of that. However I will take your suggestions into consideration.
