I'm a huge fan of Gothic Metal so here are my favorites.
Lacuna Coil - Though I'm not much of a fan anything before Comalies and Karmacode I really enjoy their work. A lot of people don't like Karmacode but it's actually one of my favorite albums by them. Comalies had so many skippable tracks.

Paradise Lost - One of the defining Gothic Metal bands. Really everything they've made has been amazing. My favorite album is Gothic.

Theatre of Tragedy - Though I prefer their older albums I still find myself enjoying them a lot. They have a very interesting and diverse discography that they can appeal to my interest in Gothic Metal and Industrial.

Elis - Though I don't listen to them as much as I use to they still remain one of my favorite bands.

Type O Negative - It took them a while to really grow on me but lately I've found myself listening to them a lot. They're ironic sense of humor and slow brooding ballads both haunting and amazing.

Tristania - They really don't need much of an introduction. They've been one of my constant favorite Gothic Metal bands. They really haven't let me down yet. Something for which I'm very happy about. Though I am wondering what there new vocalist will sound like.

Sirenia - I have mixed feelings about them. At Sixes And Sevens was my favorite album. But lately they've  been getting progressively more pop...I do really enjoy their first album though.

Forever Slave - A lot of people don't like Lady Angellyca's vocals but I absolutely love this band. I'm still not sure what I think of their most recent album though...

That's all I can think of right now.

Too many... but off the top of my head:

Trail of Tears - look at my Last FM. They are my most played band... actually, they're in an exact tie with Kamelot, hahaha. I didn't even mean that on purpose!

Lacuna Coil - okay, they were only Gothic Metal on Comalies, everything else prior was too light to be metal, and Karmacode is more like Nu-Goth. But Comalies was awesome, even though I prefer their earlier stuff.

After Forever - they mix power metal and gothic metal so well together. Floor just has endless vocal abilities

Theatre of Tragedy is an obvious one... they created the Beauty and the Beast aesthetic. What's not to like about that? And their usage of electronic music was fun, too.

Meh... goth metal... *mutter*. Obviously, I´m not a big fan of the genre. There is a band that plays this sort of music (at least in their later work) that I do think are great, though; they´re a German band called Subway to Sally. Anyone else heard of them? They don´t sem to well- known outside of Germany...

Anyways, thanks to Flora I decided to check out The Gathering. Mandylion is an awesome album! I also checked out Anathema, and they kicked ass too. \,,/

There's alot of bands who is taged as gothic but actually don't got much in common with the original gothic style.

I love alot of bands that I still call "gothic".
What do you say bout bands like Entwine, To/Die/For or End of Green? Do you think they could count as gothic?

Ofcourse it's not gothic, it's gothic metal, which to some, is a bad tag, but I don't see anything wrong with it. Sometimes, it's used poorly, but it's the best that you can get for the sound of the genre.

I talket to alot of people who gets angry when I call Entwine gothic metal. I don't understand why some people care that much about what is called what.

I'm having hard with alot of the gothic-class bands, since I don't like alot of the female singers. Got any unknown female fronted gothic bands for me?

I personally don't know much of Entwine, so I don't have an opinion as to whether they're gothic metal or not.

It is important to have clear terminology and meanings along with it as to what is what because it's the best way to keep the public educated on the differences between the different forms of music.

Before I give you any recommendations, or before anyone else chooses to, it is important to know what your problem is. What is your problem (or problems) with a lot of the female singers in gothic metal?

First of all, I shoul add that I'm extremly open minded. I listen to all kind of bands.

On my top 100 at my Last.fm site, I find Nightwish, The Knife and Beesech as the bands with female vocalists.
All three has a very diffrent style of vocal, therefor it's hard for me to say exactly what I'm looking for in a female singer.
I can tall you that I don't like the Within Temptation type of singing, sounds like she's just howling with no feeling or technique. Even though I love thier type of music.

But since I see how hard it is to give recomendations to a guy who don't know exactly what he's looking for, I re-draw my request;) And keep on searching on my own.

Ahh, perhaps you don't like the soft singing? That's the connection I seem to see. What I recommend you try is to look into Finland's gothic metal scene, since it seems to be more hard rock-oriented. Look into a band called Charon: no soft singing, it's never at high pitches (the singer sings at low alto notes)... very good stuff. I love their album Songs for the Sinners. Yea, not a great album title, but I find that the music more than makes up for that. Smile I think you should just go on a raid for Finnish gothic metal, haha. Razz

Yeah, Charon is a great band! But I feel that J.P. tries to copy Ville Laihiala a bit too much. And then we got Lauri Tuohimaa who tries to copy J.P. way too much!

Whole finland is nothing more then a bunch of great bands. But I think I found almost everything they have to offer a guy like me at the moment^^

Nah, JP doesn't have a soft voice like Ville's. Ville doesn't seem to be able to hit the low notes like JP does, and JP can do some great tenor vocals at times. Have you heard Songs for the Sinners, by any chance?

By the way, which band does Lauri front? I remember hearing a singer from another Finnish gothic metal band that sounded exactly like JP. Maybe it was him!
