The type of Prog metal I like most are those which have
1. An awesome vocalist.
2. Nice and crunchy guitar riffs that you can bang your head to, Symphony X's 2nd and 3rd albums are the best example of this.
3. Melodic choruses that are somewhat "uplifting" and create an epic, and at the same time haunting effect. Manticora's song "It Feels Like The End" describes this best.
4. ENJOYABLE music. Anubis Gate, Lemur Voice, Manticora and Symphony X. Probably the best Prog bands because they make songs that are not TOO long (one or two long songs in an album is okay, but if every song in the album is 20 minutes long, it really kills the charm of a long song), epic, and technical while not sacrificing the enjoyment factor.
I still haven't checked out Threshold, I'm alternating between Lemur Voice and Slauter Xtroyes right now.
I really WANT to get into Dream Theater. Everyone is so full of praise for them but I just haven't been able to get into their music, their music isn't as enjoyable as Symphony X's or Anubis Gate. I like one or two songs, Honor Thy Father and Glass Prison are both cool songs. _________________ My Facebook, My Youtube, My Last.FM, My Blog
Feh. I'd say Scenes From a Memory, but I don't feel like acting like a bunch of Metallica fans who equate Kevin Moore with Cliff Burton.
There's a band called Adagio you might like, if you like Symphony X. Just their first two albums, though. Sanctis Ignus, and Underworld. _________________ Through nature's inflexible grace, I'm learning to live.
I think I'm gonna hold back on the discovering and downloading frenzy I've been on in the last month and just enjoy the music I currently have in my hard drive... then again I get bored too quickly _________________ My Facebook, My Youtube, My Last.FM, My Blog
So.. I've heard Dream THeater's Systematic Chaos... and I liked it. Its very, very, very good. Took me a while to get used to it though. _________________ My Facebook, My Youtube, My Last.FM, My Blog
I reccomend Threshold's Dead Reckoning to anyone with a good taste in music.
That's a great album. I've tried Subsurface as well, and it's not as good, although it's still a pleasant listen. Fans of the band seem to lean towards Hypothetical and Critical Mass as the band's best.
Who's the guy who did the death grunts in Slipstream? Was it Threshold's vocalist or was it a guest appearance? _________________ My Facebook, My Youtube, My Last.FM, My Blog
Does the main riff of Slipstream seem familiar to you? As in, do you get the feeling that you've heard it somewhere? I think I've heard that riff somewhere, but I can't place my finger on it. _________________ My Facebook, My Youtube, My Last.FM, My Blog
Haven't listened to the album in a few months, so I couldn't tell you. But I remember it being a pretty generic groove-ish riff, so you probably have heard it.
Yeah I think I remember hearing it in some commercial or something, but then again its a generic half thrash riff so yeah. _________________ My Facebook, My Youtube, My Last.FM, My Blog
