What does everyone think of black metal's newest sub-sub-genre, Suicidal/Depressive Black Metal? It's hard for me to have the interest in most black metal and for some reason, SDBM really appeals to me - if the band does it right. It's so weird. Trippy jajaja?
My favourite SDBM bands are Lifelover, Trist, Coldworld and Thy Light. I don't like Xasthur at all. Well I don't like American black metal in general but Xasthur is higher on the suck-age scale.

Also, suicidal black metal can be good, but more often than not it tends to be whiny. However, Semargl are an exception. They're pretty haunting, especially in the song Pure Hatred, right at the middle. It actually scared me a bit.

I just started getting into this genre last night. Previously I had been into Leviathan and Xasthur (mostly the former) but I've just discovered bands like Nyktalgia, which is even better. It's not a bad genre; I rather enjoy it. Other than OSBM, it's probably my favorite sub-genre.

I really love it. Striborg is my favorite, but I really love Xasthur. There is just something about Striborg that really makes you feel alone and depressed.

Bah, I've never listened to Suicidal/Depressive BM.
The reason for this is not at all on principle, it's just that there's always been more interesting bands around to distract me.
Might check out Leviathan or Xasthur if I can get around to it.

I really wouldn't reccomend Leviathan or Xasthur, they're so much more ''professional''-sounding SDBM bands.

When the style is done correctly, it can be great. If it's not, it's boring as hell. Most of the bands fall into the second category unfortunately.
Check out Totalselfhatred, they do it right.
