Alright, I know what these guys have done for punk, they spearheaded anarcho-punk and basically inspired thousands, but their music is pretty much crap. The vocals are lifeless for a band that seemed so fuelled in their idealogy, the riffs are rubbish for the genre and the production is terrible. I understand the whole D.I.Y ethic, but Crass just take it overboard. The guitar is pretty much non-existant, it's just the crud vocals over a blur.
I disagree with you. Crass are a very good band with magnificent lyrics (unfortunately for me, I cannot find their Cds easily in Athens). The thing with Crass is that they have absolutely no musical structure and that their playing has no technique (something that's done in purpose). So, in my opinion at least Crass are weird, not musically bad. The same thing happens with a lot of weird bands in every musical genre. Examples of such bands are Dälek (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxTyHYe4yvs), Angizia (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCeAUtC0fGA) and !T.O.O.H.! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3M-vB_r9Z2o). However, still all those bands have logical structures whereas Crass lack any form of logical structure. Of course, I love all of them :p
