Well, what Folk Metal bands do you like that have real Folk instruments? For me, I love (actualy they are my favorite band) Korpiklaani. Other great ones are Skyclad, Skyforger, Waylander, Eluveitie, Metsatöll and Turisas. And how do you feel about bands that use keyboards? My self, I love Finntroll and Ensiferum, but they for some reason just don't have the same sound as bands like Korpiklaani and Skyclad. _________________ When night falls, she cloaks the world

Hey, if the keyboards are good, then I don't give a shat. Sometimes if they're good enough, I don't notice the difference.
I prefer that black folk metal stuff. There's a band called Alkonost, they're a black folk metal band and they have a good female opera vocalist. It all works well together. _________________ I just want to eat your brains.
I prefer when the band uses real "folk" instruments. Favorite bands are Turisas, Eluveitie, Tuatha De Danann and old Elvenking.
The feeling of those real folk-instruments can never be replaced by the sound of some keyboard.
I still like Finntroll and Ensiferum but they aren't able create the very same sound or feeling as Eluveitie are able to do.
And live I think we all prefer to look at Lisko (Turisas) jumping around with his accordion rather then someone standing still behind a keyboard at the back of the stage..
To me the real folk metal is the kind like Windir and Ásmegin, where, along with the traditional metal trio of guitar, bass, and percussion, keyboards, accordions, and a variety of vocal techniques are employed. As long as this music is very metal and not at all polka, its sex for me ears.
In fact, I need to get around to checking out nearly every band mentioned in this thread since I'm pretty sure I'd like them all (except for Finntroll).
I've just listened to Tuatha De Dannon and I like it. But I still prefer Żywiołak however they're not metal (hmmm, I've seen tags folk metal and bio-metal on last.fm but...)
