Talk about this great movie here. Definitely one of the best of 08, if not THE best, it never fails to stun with its great action and amazing rendition of the 80s and 90s Batman. Heath Ledger's Joker is probably the best ever. Everything said about his performance here is true. He really is that good.
But really, comparing Ledger to Nicholson, I feel, is like comparing Nicholson to Caesar [the Joker from the Batman series]. It's not really something you can do. They're all the Joker, but they're different aspects of. Even in the Batman comics, Jokers vary widely. Arkham Asylum Joker is not the same as The Killing Joke Joker [which both are pretty fucking scary, I should note]. They all do really well.
Heath Ledger was my favourite part of the movie. To be honest though, Christian Bale did not stick out as much as Ledger. Anyway, here's an interesting tidbit I found from an article I wrote. This was a quote I used from SuperHeroHype:
I spotted a reference to a "Cat" in the movie when Lucious Fox provided Bruce with the new suit. Bruce specifically asked about whether or not it could withstand a dog bite and is told it could take a Cat. So with Rachel Dawes, his only love interest, out of the picture, I think it's a perfect set up for Cat Woman. Just a hunch though.
Yeah, there are many different Jokers, indeed. Ledger's reminded me of the Killing Joke one the most, with a bit of the Long Halloween theatricality mixed in.
Heath was definitely a standout in the movie, more than anyone, although I just loved the movie as a whole. Christian Bale didn't stand out as much, but he's Batman, and he's supposed to lurk in the shadows and "make every appearance worth it," as he said in the comics. I thought this portrayal of him was extremely well done, even the sometimes-over-the-top voice he had. It wasn't THAT bad though, not like some claimed.
There was also a reference to The Riddler here, as evidenced by the dude who was trying to expose Batman's identity. It's just a hunch I saw somewhere else though, but his name is Mr. Reese, which = Mysteries, which fits in with The Riddler's shtick.
I guess Catwoman would be cool to see, I'm sure they'd do her well enough.
