Fasting and Prayer

Fasting and Prayer

Postby IamRedeemed on Tue Feb 05, 2008 2:17 pm

Some come out ONLY by fasting and prayer.

And when He came to the disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and scribes disputing with them.
Immediately, when they saw Him, all the people were greatly amazed, and running to Him, greeted Him.
And He asked the scribes, “What are you discussing with them?”
Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit. And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.”

He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.” Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth. So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!” Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.”
But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.
And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”
So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise you. Titus 2:11-15

Yes, I think as believers we tend to unestimate the power of fasting and prayer as well as praise and worship God. Charles Stanley says it best "we fight our battles on our knees and leave all the consequences to God. ".

Best time to pray that I find God wakes me up is between 2:30am and 5:30 am.Years ago, I kept on waking up the same time 2:30 am and found it hard to go back to sleep. I met an intercessor at work who told me God was trying to get my attention for me to pray and talk to him. She told me the best time to talk to God and for him to hear you was between those hours above. I am not sure why, but now when I feel God leads me to pray in the wee hours in the morning, I pray or praise God or just talk to him....then I would fall asleep with no problems. So if you find at times waking up a certain time and you can't go to sleep perhaps God wants you to talk to him or even just praise him.

BTW- do you sometimes wake up to singing? Singing praises in your head? I wake up humming. Am I the only weird one? I am asking just wondering if believers are getting a calling to pray and praise God more. Joel 2 comes to mind, that in the last days, God will pour out his spirit upon all flesh perhaps I am wondering if believers are starting to find they want something more...of feeling God's presence in their life?

Amen sister. Yes, the intercessor was correct. At least as far as I know in my own experience and
testimonies like yours confirm it. God has been waking me up between 3am and 3:30am for
many years now. It is a great time to spend time with the Lord too. I enjoy our time
together at that time more than any other time of day or night. I guess it is because the world is quiet,
everyone is sleeping and the birds haven't gotten up yet! lol

I do sometimes wake up singing. Or wake up with a praise song on my heart, that I have to sing.
I also sometimes wake myself up praying in tongues. I have some vivid dreams sometimes as well, in fact in one dream I was casting out devils in someone, in the foyer of a Church. There were several people there, it was before service started. It seemed to be like on a Wednesday night service. My younger brother was in ministry with me and was there.
in the dream. My brother is saved, but we are not in ministry together, he lives in another state. Perhaps it is prophetic. Another time I had a dream that I was driving a pick up truck I don't own and have never seen. I saw my brother in that dream as well. I was leaving his home at the time. A gust of wind hurled me and the truck up into the air and I cried out, "Lord into your hands I commit my spirit!" and then I woke up.

I also occasionally will receive a short vision.
I guess they are more of a Word of Knowledge in a picture form. It isn't like I am carried away in a vision, like some have experienced. Sometimes I get the interpretation as well, and sometimes I don't. Like recently, (in fact I was going to create another forum for these types of things because I wanted to post this one.) Recently, I got a vision of an upside down umbrella. It was rainbow colored. The interpretation of it that I received was regarding Homsxl "Christians". The interpretation was that they had NO SHELTER, as their protection was under their feet!
Which to me means they trample the Son of God, our only protection, under their feet.

Another one I saw, that I don't have the interpretation for was a rockinghorse head and scribble.
I have no idea what that means, but I wrote it down because I did not want to forget it.

Hi LG50 :hug2:

Thank you so much for the blessing and thank you for the video.
That is the noise I hear every morning outside. I sometimes ponder
listening to the birds as they give praise to the Lord, faithfully every morning.
Very often the Lord gives me lessons of life, when I am tending my flower
garden too, and this beautiful video reminds me of those things and this
Scripture Philippians 4:8
"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
:churchamen:

God bless you and thank you again!

Interesting, my pastor just preached over these scriptures a month ago. He named the sermon Why Could We Not? Makes it kind of a confirmation issue to me, anyhow.

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
