The Bible and the T.V. Guide

From the archives. An oldie but goodie.

The Bible and the T.V. Guide

On the table side by side
The Holy Bible and the T.V. Guide.

One is well worn, yet cherished with pride,
But that one is not the Bible, it's the T.V. Guide.

One is used daily to help folks decide,
No! it isn't the Bible, it's the T.V. Guide.

As the pages are turned what shall they see?
Oh! it doesn't matter, just turn on the T.V.

Then confusion is started, for they can't all agree
On what they shall watch on the old T.V.

So they refer to the book in which they all confide
But it isn't the Bible, it's the T.V. Guide.

The Word of God is seldom read.
Maybe a verse before they fall into bed.

Exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be,
Not from reading the Bible, but from watching T.V.

Then back to the table side by side,
The Holy Bible and the T.V. Guide.

No time for prayer, No time for the Word.
The plan of salvation is seldom heard.

Forgiveness of sin so full and free
We find in the Bible and not on T.V.

:cry2:
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise you. Titus 2:11-15

There is so much garbage on TV today. Heroes on the shows are reprobates of the worst kind. The only things I watch anymore are sports.

Meh. I'm not a big fan of watching sports. I would rather play than watch. I enjoy playing volleyball, softball, tennis, raquetball and basketball. (Ping pong, badmitton and croquet are okay too.) Not that I get to do any of those things regularly. sigh....

As far as television. You're right, there is very little of value on TV as far as I am concerned. I do watch what I find to be valuable programming though on Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, History Channel and some Christian programming and of course the news, both local and worldwide.

Oh my, that is sure the truth. There isn't much worth paying the electric for on television these days. It is sad that what started out as such a blessing, in many ways has become a curse. I guess that's the way it is with a lot of things, if you think about it. What I would give to see the children of today, enjoy the simple life we had in my childhood. Not that there wasn't some hard chores to do, but families were so much closer, neighbors were so much more friendly, and people were grateful for the things that money couldn't buy. Virtues that are indeed found in the Bible. That is a sad but true little poem. Let us each be mindful and take heed to it, lest we ourselves become guilty of making the Lord last on our list. Heaven forbid.
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
