This is what our Cause really needs. Education that will dis-spell the yankee influenced myths of the WBTS was over slavery, slaves were beaten and mis-treated albeit the South was a fundemnetal Christian society which took the Bible at face value, it meant what it said in other words..... now look thru your Bible at the verses that pertain to slavery and then ask yourself, if these were God fearing would they have mistrated their slaves. Like everything else there are exceptions but I'm talking overall.

I love to get a discussion started wherever I may be about Black Confederates and that the South paid the soliders the same...the north paid the blacks less and on and on....... Nothing makes my day more than getting a liberal to stuttering Smile

Believe it or not "partssman" this is one of the two main reasons I started this whole site and of course this post is because minorities that fought for the the Confederacy have been ignored for so many years every since the yankee book makers started writing their version of lincoln's war and it's not fair that these Brave & Loyal Southern men of Color have been left out. I had always heard historical rumors of Black & American Indian Rebels but I was surprised to hear of Hispanic, Asian & Jewish ones as well and I have many of them documented here.

On February 26, 2008 in Bradenton, Florida a program on "Jewish Confederates" will be presented by Lunelle Siegel, United Daughters of the Confederacy®, Chapter President from Temple Terrace, Florida.

Thousands of Jewish Americans served for the Confederacy during the War of 1861-1865. Some were soldiers, others were Government officials, and one was even a famous spy!

The highest ranking Jewish Government official, long before Nixon appointed Henry Kissinger was Confederate President Jefferson Davis' appointment of Judah P. Benjamin to his cabinet. In fact, the Gamble Plantation Historic site in Ellenton, Florida exists today because of its connection to Secretary Judah P. Benjamin.

Speaker Bio: Lunelle Siegel is the President of the Augusta Jane Evans Wilson Chapter #2640 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, based in Temple Terrace, Florida. The United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) is the Nation's oldest Patriotic organization, an outgrowth of Lady's Veteran Aide Societies. Lunelle always considered herself "Southern", but it wasn't until 1996, that she even knew that an organization of descendants of Confederate Veterans existed. She began researching, and as of today she has documented 10 ancestors, on both of her parent's sides, that served honourably for the Southern Confederacy. The first ancestor she documented was Francis Burdett Hagan, a Floridian who lived in Manatee County, who served in the "Cow Cavalry". This was a commissary unit, formed of Florida Cowmen to protect the food supply to the Confederate Army. In the later years of the War, Florida became the breadbasket of the Confederacy, and her salt and beef was critical to War. Since her initial discovery in 1997, she has assisted over 100 men and women find their Southern heritage and enjoys researching and teaching history of the War Between the States. This program has been presented at the Jewish Genealogical Society of Tampa Bay, the Jewish Genealogical Society of Southwest Florida and The Jewish Genealogical Society of Georgia at The William Breman Jewish Heritage Museum in Atlanta, Georgia.

Lunelle and her husband Bart, and their dog "Copper", reside in Temple Terrace, Florida.
