This is mainly for a couple of our members who I know are from Florida, but it is good for the rest of us to learn from this and help Florida because it can and probably has happened near you or to you.

Did you see the report yesterday on Channel 4 WJXT at 6 p.m.? If not, go to

http://www.news4jax.com/news/16116836/detail.html ?An employee at BJ's Wholesale Club's Warehouse, Bobby Tillett, is being forced to park his pick-up off company property because he proudly displays a Confederate battleflag on it. B.J.'s is a yankee company with

more than 170 stores in 16 states from Maine to Florida. ?

We need to strongly protest this violation of Mr. Tillett's free speech rights. Florida State Statute XVIII, 256.10 states: "Mutilation of or disrespect for confederate flags or replicas.--No person shall publicly mutilate, deface, defile, defy, trample upon, or by word or act cast contempt upon the flags of the Confederacy, or replicas thereof, for crass or commercial purposes; provided however nothing contained herein shall be construed to prevent or prohibit the use of such flags for decorative or patriotic purposes." Clearly, B.J.'s has "cast contempt" on our battleflag by banning it "for crass or commercial purposes." They believe, I hope erroneously, that by doing so, they will avoid loss of customers.

If you are offended as I am, then I urge you to take several actions:

Participate in the poll on the issue at http://www.news4jax.com/news/16116836/detail.html .
Boycott B.J.'s until they rescind their edict against the battleflag.
Call or visit local store managers to politely but firmly complain about the insult to our heritage. (Local stores are listed below.)
Send a letter or call B.J.'s headquarters (contacts below).
Groups should consider organizing flag-waving pickets outside B.J. retail stores.
