Please say a prayer for a great Southern gentleman, Christian and Southern Patriot. Jesse Helms died today at 83 years old, keep his family and all his loyal supporters in North Carolina and through-out the South in your prayers. Thank you & God Bless...†††
In many ways, Helms' values were forged in the small town where his father was police chief.
"I shall always remember the shady streets, the quiet Sundays, the cotton wagons, the Fourth of July parades, the New Year's Eve firecrackers. I shall never forget the stream of school kids marching uptown to place flowers on the Courthouse Square monument on Confederate Memorial Day," Helms wrote in a newspaper column in 1956.

I'm surprised there isnt more posts on this thread.Jesse Helms may not be with us phsically but always in the hearts and spirits of his native brothers and sisters. He was my Senator almost all my life...and his politics and values is the very core root of my own.He was a member of the SCV.Yall remember when he whistled Dixie in the Senate elevator in spite of the first black Senator from Illinois? This is the Jesse that had my vote.....Not afraid of our Yankee counterparts....always delivering his best...He will be missed....I realize it is 4th of July...but Im scorned that Mike{kissin' Jim} Easley is waiting till Monday to lower the flags at 1/2 mast.Thats just me.....He was the last of our Old South segregationists....that really went the extra mile....All I have too say is...Get ready Teddy Kennedy!!! Ol' Jess is waiting.....with your chuck of coal you so predominately politiked for...LOL!!!!God Bless Ol' Jess!!! He still lives in ME!!!!! _________________

Thank y'all for postin your comments on Senator Jesse, I too loved Jesse Helms and I don't think the people of the "Old North State" will ever see his like again, I am very sad to say. He was the "Old South" that I wish were not gone with the wind. Jesse was a Southern Gentleman and Christian whom was not ashamed of being either, one of the finest men to walk the halls of Senate. I voted for this fine Carolina Son from the time I was old enough to vote until he retired in 2003. I am not ashamed to say I wept when I heard the news... God Bless you Senator Helms, you've got a seat at the head of the celestial table with The "Almighty" and two more great sons of the South Robert E. Lee & Thomas J. Jackson... Rest In Peace my Friend †††

I agree with each of you Jesse Helms was a great man and will truly be missed. If he was running for office I would vote for him again and again. May he rest in peace for he truly did do his job well while he was here. If he had not been loved by the people and not have done a great job he would not have served as many years as he did. I pray God will give comfort and peace to his family during these days of loss and sorrow. _________________

Sen. Helms was truly a Southron politician. while the people who campaign these days will change their platform with each and every speech, Sen. Helms actually campaigned with his heart and his consiensce. god Bless him, and there will be a flag flying at half mast for him in Tennessee. _________________
