The thread about Sen. Helms got me to thinking about this, and I would like some opinions. I will soon be getting an upright flagpole to replace the wall mounted one I currently have. once the swap is done, I plan on lowering my flags to half staff every year on the Confederate memorial days of my native state Georgia ( April 26), and my home State of Tennessee (June 3rd) I feel the duty to celebrate both due to me allegiance to both states ( although I never plan to return to Georgia, except for heritage rallies, protests, etc.) which leads me to my question. what other days do ya'll feel that the flag should be flown at half staff in remembrance?
while some may not agree, here are the days that I have chosen, in Chronological order:
Feb. 18th - the anniversary of Dale Earnhardts death. regardless of anything else, or the fact that some may find the fact that I have chosen to honor him this way, keep in mind, on that day, the South lost a living legend that day.
April 26 - Confederate Memorial day- Georgia
June 3rd - Confederate Memorial day - Tennessee
September 16 - the anniversary of my pappaws death. a truly great Southern man, and the man who made me who I am today
October 20th - the anniversary of the plane crash that killed several members of Lynyrd Skynyrd.
I would have added Hank Sr's anniversary to the list, but considering that he died on New years day, it would seem strange.
Johhnyreb, honestly, I'm not really sure where this topic belongs, so feel free to relocate it at your discretion _________________

That is a great idea my friend and I agree with all those dates including the personal ones. I would include the death dates of Davis, Lee & Jackson as well as any Southern Soldiers particularly Southern States National Guard Troops killed in action in this current war and Police & Firemen killed in the line of duty Protecting Southern lives. But that's just me, because that is what I do. _________________
