General Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson

Thomas J. Jackson was born to Jonathan and Julia Jackson in Clarksburg Virginia (now western Virginia) on 21 January 1824, raised in Jackson's Mill Virginia until his appointment to West Point USMA from where he graduated in June 1846. Served with honor and distiction in the Mexican War and later became a teacher of natural and experimental philosophy (related to modern day physics and included physics, astronomy, acoustics, optics, and other scientific courses) at VMI in Lexington Virginia.

A brilliant tactician and Soldier whos tactics are still studied today. General Jackson lead his troops to some magnificent victories, but on a dark night near the town of Chancellorsville on May 2nd 1863 he was conducting a recconnaisance and probing the yankee lines with his staff, who advised him against being so close to the yankee line and was mistakenly shot by some of his own men who thought it was a yankee patrol. General Jackson died 10 May 1863 3:15 p.m. from complications from his wounds and the amputation of his left arm. He was burried in Lexington on the 15th.

When General Lee learned of General Jackson's injury he said, "he has lost his left arm, and I have lost my right".
There have been many "what-if's" kicked around about the War.
My main one is what if Jackson was never wounded, but instead was at Lee's side at Gettysburg?
We may very well been paying our taxes to Richmond instead of Washington.
As a side note I cannot remember which company it was that shot Jackson, but it was a NC company.
Lastly let me recommend an excelent dvd about General's Lee and Jackson. It is called "Warriors of Honor".

Thank you for your reply "gray_rider1861", it was the 18th North Carolina that accidentally shot Gen. Jackson. Sadly I agree that had Jackson lived we would have won Gettysburg and the North would have had to accept Richmond's peace accord. C.S.A._Flag

BTW, where can you find ""Warriors of Honor"? Sounds like a great DVD!
