"I'm A Good Ole Rebel"
Oh, I'm a good old Rebel, now that's just what I am,
For this "Fair Land of Freedom" I do not give a damn!
I'm glad I fit against it, I only wish we'd won,
And I don't want no pardon for anything I done.
I hates the Constitution, this Great Republic, too,
I hates the Freedman's Buro in uniforms of blue,
I hates the nasty eagle with all his brag and fuss,
The lying, thieving Yankees, I hates 'em wuss and wuss!
I hates the Yankee nation and everything they do,
I hates the Declaration of Independence, too,
I hates the "Glorious Union" , 'tis dripping with our blood,
I hates their striped banner, I fit it all I could.
I followed old Marse Robert for four years, near about,
Got wounded in three places, and starved at P'int Lookout;
I cotched the "roomatism" a'campin' in the snow,
But I killed a chance o' Yankees, and I'd like to kill some mo'.
Three hundred thousand Yankees is stiff in Southern dust!
We got three hundred thousand before they conquered us.
They died of Southern fever and Southern steel and shot,
I wish they was three million instead of what we got.
I can't take up my musket and fight 'em now no more,
But I ain't a'gonna love 'em, now that is sarten sure;
And I don't want no pardon for what I was and am,
I won't be reconstructed, and I do not care a damn!
I won't be reconstructed! I'm better now than them,
And for a carpetbagger, I do not give a damn.
So I'm off for the frontier, soon as I can go,
I'll prepare me a weapon and start for Mexico. _________________

DIXIE !
I wish I was in the land of cotton,
Old times there are not forgotten,
Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!
In Dixie land where I was born in,
Early on a frosty mornin',
Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!
Chorus:
Then I wish I was in Dixie, hooray! hooray!
In Dixie land I'll take my stand, to live and die in Dixie,
Away, away, away down south in Dixie,
Away, away, away down south in Dixie.
Old Missus marry "Will de Weaber",
Willium was a gay deceaber,
Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!
But when he put his arm around her,
He smiled as fierce as a forty pounder.
Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!
Chorus
His face was sharp as a butcher's cleaver
But that did not seem to grieve her;
Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!
Old missus acted the foolish part,
And died for a man that broke her heart.
Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!
Chorus
Now here's a health to the next old missus
And all the gals that want to kiss us;
Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!
But if you want to drive away sorrow,
Come and hear this song tomorrow,
Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!
Chorus
Dars buckwheat cakes an' injun batter,
Makes you fat or a little fatter,
Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!
Den hoe it down and scratch your grabble
To Dixie's land I'm bound to travel,
Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!
Bonnie Blue Flag!
We are a band of brothers, and native to the soil,
Fighting for the property we gained by honest toil;
And when our rights were threatened, the cry rose near and far:
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star!
Chorus:
Hurrah! Hurrah! for Southern rights, Hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag
That bears a single star!
As long as the Union was faithful to her trust,
Like friends and like brothers, kind were we and just;
But now when Northern treachery attempts our rights to mar,
We hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.
(Chorus)
First, gallant South Carolina nobly made the stand;
Then came Alabama, who took her by the hand;
Next, quickly Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida --
All raised on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.
(Chorus)
Ye, men of valor, gather round the banner of the right;
Texas and fair Louisiana join us in the fight.
Davis, our loved president, and Stephens, statesman are;
Now rally round the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.
(Chorus)
And here's to brave Virginia! The Old Dominion State,
With the young Confederacy at length has linked her fate;
Impelled by her example, now other States prepare
To hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag, That bears a single star!
(Chorus) _________________

Aura Lee
(1861 composer unk.)
- sung to tune of "Love Me Tender"
When the blackbird in the spring,
On the willow tree,
Sat and rocked, I heard him sing,
Singing Aura Lee
Aura Lee, Aura Lee,
Maid of golden hair;
Sunshine came along with thee,
And swallows in the air.
In thy blush the rose was born,
Music when you spake,
Through thine azure eye the morn,
Sparkling seemed to break.
Aura Lee, Aura Lee,
Bird of crimson wing,
Never song have sung to me,
In that sweet spring.
Aura Lee, The bird may flee,
The willows golden hair
Swing through winter fitfully,
On the stormy air.
Yet if thy blue eyes I see,
Gloom will soon depart;
For to me, sweet Aura Lee
Is sunshine through the heart.
When the mistletoe was green,
Midst the winter's snows,
Sunshine in thy face was seen,
Kissing lips of rose.
Aura Lee, Aura Lee,
Take my golden ring;
Love and light return with thee,
And swallows with the spring.

Sorry JR - shouldn't have tagged those songs on your thread - want me to change them?
The Free South Band version of Dixie is in 3 parts - the first is traditional, the second is C&W - the third is the one I posted - country rock.
If you haven't heard it - them boys and gals can SING

My favorite version of Bonnie Blue is by the Second South Carolina String Band - that's them playing in the background of the song in Gods & Generals.
Elvis Presley took the tune of Aura Lee and added the lyrics of Love Me Tender to it - no doubt Elvis' best song.
