You Standardbreds go through alot in their racing life. Ive been reading up and i was wondering. Do any of your standardbreds make a rattling noise through their nostrils when the weather gets soggy like its been? And how about the hot weather can you hear them breath when theyre walking back from a trail ride? Every little mishap and strange noise puts me on edge with Jet. Wondered if any of you guys dealt with stuff like this too.

Hi Roseyy. This Beth. We met when you came out to look a Jet.
I don't know about most other Standerdbreds, but from personel experience with Jet, he does tend to make alot of noise with his nose. He never had any breathing problems when he raced. I think he just likes to make noise. I had a mare like that. I used to call her miss snorty pants.
As far as hearing him breath on the way back from a trail ride. Jet is kinda fat and really out of shape. He has, for the most part just been standing around for a few years.
When he was racing I did alot of his jogging and training and his breathing was fine, but he did take a long time to get in shape.
Hope that helps with your concerns. If your still worried you could have a vet out to check him over. |

Rosie
I have three standardbreds, Scotty makes this funnie sound when we head home - but nothing while we trail ride till we turn homeward bound.
Smokin makes A LOT of noise all the time mostly when he is doing his power walk - the faster he goes the louder he is, I have had both horses checked out nothing wrong - just the little quirks.
the third dosn't do sounds but he does call out as if he knows his old buddies are out there..pretty funnie. |

heheh yeah JEt makes all those noises too. The other day i took him out to a trail and he was calling back to a mare that hes fallen head over heels for . It was pretty cute and he kept calling and calling. More thing the mare acts like shes more of a stallion. So that loves not going anywhere hehehe |

Iknow this is a little late, but whatever.
Durin was over weight when I got him. He'd puff even if I walked him. When I started to trot him he'd let this puff out of his nostrils which made them flap.. So every stride it sounded like he was going to collapse..lol.
He'll still do it from time to time if he gets lazy. :} _________________ Elissa 'n' Durin

hehe yeah Jet did it too when i first got him becuase he was also overweight. He doesnt make that noise as much anymore. He used to even do it just going up the hill. Now hes lost alot of weight but hes putting it back on which makes me happy. during muggy weather though he still makes a weird noise thru his noise but its just his way. |
