A friend whose horse I boarded quite a few years ago called me about finding her another horse.  She came to meet the STBs here and was so impressed that she wanted one.  I took her up to see Sassy today, and it was a perfect match.  She'll be coming down to CT this week!

very cool. A good friend of mine fracture her spine in a riding accident 2 weeks ago. I thought of this mare but she's not in good shape to a) ride at all or b) replace the boy she needed to return . He was NOT a stb.

I'm glad it was a match made in CT ! Smile

Sassy has settled in beautifully one mile down the road from my place.
We'll be "backing" her on Friday with the saddle.  She's had one person on her back ( bareback ) two times, that's the extent of her "saddle-training"!
If she's like the rest of them, it will be a snap.

By the way, she's not 14.2 hands, she's 15 on the line!  I have a stick with the level in it, so I know it's accurate.  The new owner wanted a horse a little taller than her last one, which was 14.2, so she knew the minute she stood next to her that she was taller than that.  She was delighted to see that she was right when we measured her.

You had to have learned by now that Harness Folks don't do "Hands" !!!  If we are even close by .2, we should be proud!!!!!!!!!

Cath -- you brought back a real "moment" when you posted what you did about Harness Folks and Hands.

In my early days in racing, I made the mistake of asking a trainer how "tall" a certain horse was and guesstimated 16 hands.

He looked down his nose at me and very scornfully said, "Hell, we don't measure 'em -- we race 'em!!"

You can bet that I got a girth and height tape and did my own measuring from then on! Smile

Sasssy is doing GREAT under saddle and bitless.  She is very smart and willing.  I've ridden her three times, and today the new owner said she is almost ready to be "brave" and get on Sassy herself.  I said, " You don't need to be "brave", just calm and confident, and she'll be fine!"

I know why you harness racers don't care about "hands".....it's because you don't have to climb up onto their backs!  If you are only 5' tall, it's pretty tough to get up on a 16 hand horse, whereas if you are 5"7" tall (like me) you look pretty stupid on a 14.2 hand one.  Size doesn't matter when you are sitting behind them in a sulky or a cart, right?
