It's been very still on this forum
hope you are out riding and having fun
Karen and I took Lights and Merlin to Rutland yesterday
and we had a great ride
I have now managed to get Merlin to canter without horses in front so thats another big step. He seems to understand my cues a little better now but only has one speed at the canter and that is fast
Lights and Merlin had some wonderful fast trots while our friend on her QH was cantering behind us.
Once again we managed to get lost (We do this a lot) so the ride I thought would be a fairly easy one ended up being about 3 1/2 hours poor boys were tired at the end of it and we all got off and walked them for a while. |

It was actually rather nice -a whole new section we must explore. Clare will be at the track tomorrow but maddy and I will find the best route.
Today was a transition day. Promise went to stay with some friends who needed a companion horse. She wasn't thrilled leaving the paddock (pretty much semi retired) but got on the trailer. We got to the friends home and she was happy to see her old buddy george.
We sat on the porch and watched them. She came up to the fence and stared-I said "this is what you are here for-go eat-no riding". As I left George chased my trailer along the drive. She was pretty content.
I came home and lights whinnied a couple of times. However when she didn't come out he walked away. He and maddy are out in the field. I do think they knew it was a day of change. Now I'm down to two. Whatever will I do with myself ??
She will be back in the spring or sooner if needed. It may work well as I can go ride her in the winter and not have to trailer. That will be nice. |

Saturday (the 30th) was my oldest daughter's wedding. Probably the rainiest day of the season....lol
Luckily it cleared enough for wonderful photos at Ned's Point.
The sky took on a platinum appearance, and the water was a deep green/grey.
The stark white of the masts behind her made for quite a dramatic background.
Not what we'd originally hoped for, but the photographer said the lighting was far better than a blue sky!
Sunday....a quiet uneventful day at the barn. Figured I'd ride just before bringing horses in.
Was working on seat, and had dropped my stirrups for a few rounds of non stirrup work.. (bad hip still causing an issue on the right)
Long details omitted, but X had a major spook/buck/spin/bolt, which sent me flying like a ragdoll. Smashed to the ground, unable to move my legs.
Again details omitted, but spent day in ER boarded.they were getting ready to transport, thinking my pelvis was smashed.
More details omitted, but fortunately, I have a guardian angel working overtime, who saw to it I had only a bruised kidney and contusions, no bone breaks or fractures!!!
Can't raise my legs or bend over at all..can't sit upright for too long either......but thank GOD, I am just hurting, not injured for life, or worse.
My poor horse, I was told, was so shaken up by the event he wouldn't eat his dinner that night, and seemed out of sorts still, the next morning.
It was NOT his fault.....but he was a little extra dramatic that day...............lol
so yes we were enjoying the weather somewhat....and I suppose it's better to be laid up when it's sunny, versus dreary!
Hanna has been beside herself calling me....we have our routine, and even if she is fed and watered just fine by other people, she has her expectations being unmet and she is NOT happy!
Was able to get out there for a bit this am to calm her down. She just needed a few minutes of reassurance.
I am not one to humanize.....but it was really interesting that she should notice me missing and be so upset by it.
Well, it's nice to know one is loved, in whatever form, eh? _________________ "There is no secret so close as that between a rider and his horse." ROBERT SMITH SURTEES

We are all glad you are ok! I am sure X feels like crap. Hope you are back to the barn soon. And you will have to get some of that super glue for your bum. |

I hope you are feeling better today. I too am glad you are ok.
Our weekend was much less eventful-thank goodness.
I rode in Rutland State Park and it was georgeous. THere are miles of trails and dirt roads that I think would entice a few drivers to explore. We went down a couple of dead ends, did see a coyote "tally ho" and found some hills to climb.
Maddy was pretty upset with me . She got on the trailer and although usually very good didn't want to get on and started kicking the wall of the trailer. Not to humanize but taking prom away was a bit upsetting to her and lights. She has finally stopped whinnying for her. Funny, I thought lights would have the harder time .
Im not sure if she pulled something or just wasn't herself but the ride was slow , slow ,slow... but we enjoyed ourselves anyway.
All are well-understand the Hanna concept. They like you and consistency. Some horses , like people are much more flexible. Some are not.
While you all are traveling to the show, I'm going to do my first fox hunt of the season with Norfolk. It's a drag hunt but I have friends that belong to this hunt and will enjoy riding with them and watching the hounds. I have my big black trailer with "pro-stb" stickers on them. |

****Obnoxious Mom alert*****
Haven't been up enough to get cameras gathered and pics uploaded.........but I do have at least this one to introduce my new son-in-law, Aaron.
Fortunately for both my girls, their men come from horse families!
Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Hussey!

Now on another note, a math problem I would like to share
