There has been talk of a few rule changes for the Winter. Everyone wants rules that will favour them at that precise moment (even though that can change to their own detriment down the line) and very few have an objective view of what will actually be beneficial to the league as whole moving forwards. So here are a few suggestions for people to mull over and hopefully look at the bigger picture (not their own little situation):
- to play in the last 4 matches of the season a player must have played a minimum of 4 matches for the club by that stage [stops teams bringing players in at the death]
- players must be nominated minimum 1 week prior to the first match [means everyone knows where they are at start]
- either (a) players can only be added to the list at half way or (b) one week before the match [(a)stops too much manipulation/less work for league organiser or (b) gives some notice of change]
- teams should only be from NW Priory, extending back to outer kent the league will start to hurt the success, as the travelling is what killed off Kent League last time
- matches PAR 11 in top division [will happen in sport as whole v. soon so may as well do it now]
- only 1 team per club in top division [it’s a tricky one for strong clubs, but rules get very messy otherwise,]
Sure there are plenty more but its a start. |

I think the main question that needs to be answered by ALL clubs is do you want the top division to be run as a 'super league' or not. If not then restrictions to the amount of imported players to say 2 registered but only 1 playing at any one match. If yes then I believe you have to allow clubs from 'outside the zone' to enter otherwise you will have a league that is played for the benifit of 2 - 3 clubs with the others playing a mini league between themselves, now this will kill off the division eventually.
As previously mentioned in the foum it is nothing new and with Mote dabbling in it and Medway squash club (pre Fitness First) winning it, did it benefit the league or the clubs? The proof is there to see now |

I've always felt that teams should be nominated in order of merit, in that way it makes it more dificult for clubs to get two teams in the higher leagues and should ensure a hefty defeat for the 2nd team.
It should also prevent the 3 - 2 defeat for the 1st team that can sometimes happen.
If the club number 6 is playing at 1 in the 2nd's then they're unlikely to reach the top unless they're particularly strong in depth.
I realise that this may put some people off playing team squash for their club but then it may allow for someone who wants to play higher in a team to seek opportunities at another club and help raise the general standard throughout the league. There are already quite a number of players who travel to play in the different leagues (Priory/ OK/ Surrey etc), so it is unlikely to be a catastrophic rule change.
Can appreciate why it is not a good idea for some and probably not something which would pick up a lot of votes, methinks. |

There may only be a small window between the Summer and Winter seasons to make any change, so a good idea to start thinking about it now, including:
1) Seeing how the play-offs work (especially how the two BH teams match up)
2) Canvassing OK teams like Mote, Rodmersham & Canterbury(?) to see whether they will apply for the Winter - and, if so, whether a Red & Blue 12-team Div 1 will work in the Winter.
3) Asking Bexley, Park Langley and Dulwich how they feel now about having two teams in Div 1 next Summer - as two of them will almost certainly be eligible (in fact, Dulwich may want to have two teams in Div 1 this Winter?).
4) Deciding now whether the two-down relegation rule will definitely apply to the two bottom teams in Div 1 this Summer - assuming the same teams apply to enter next Summer - and also considering that twelve teams in Div 1 is meant to be a one-off.
Good luck! Incidentally, we shall be applying for Div 4 next Summer - unless T/Wells give us back the points they stole. |

It's all ifs and buts. Everything depends on how many and which teams apply.
Word of warning. The amount of late entries over the seasons has become extremely irritating. There could well be a few unhappy teams out there come the start of the winter when they realise that, from now on, the time has come for zero tolerance. |

PC, Rodmersham would like to be considered for entry to the Priory this winter if at all possible. |

I think the rules are fine, the only one that is a little frustrating is not being able to play someone that has only played once in the first half.
This could possibly change in the summer as it is hard to cobble a team together due to holidays. Turning up with 4 players is never good, perhaps the rule should be that you have to have played for your club more than twice in the first half.
I our case (BCC II) we could lend the firsts one of ours who would only ever play at five and arguably would not be classed as 'bringing someone in'. |
