As we all know, during the second inning, Victor was on his way to second and went down before he got to the base. It looked like he blew out his leg, but he has left hamstring tightness, and he will be day-to-day. Let's all hope this isn't really serious and wish him a speedy recovery . _________________

They're saying now that it might be a little more worse than they though...I don't like hearing that....Well at least Rick Manning is saying that...he said the clip looks like he did a lot more damage than they're saying _________________

Here's the article from the Indians' website:
Martinez suffers hamstring tightness
Catcher pulls up lame on the basepaths in second inning
CLEVELAND -- Home openers, whether they're completed or not, have not been kind to Victor Martinez lately.
Martinez left Monday's game against the White Sox in the second inning with left hamstring tightness, suffered when he tried to advance from first base to second on a ball in the dirt. After the game, the Indians did not yet have the results of an MRI performed on the leg. Martinez is listed as day-to-day.
"It's something going on with his hamstring," manager Eric Wedge said. "I have not received a report, outside of the fact that they're taking a look at it."
Last year, Martinez left the original home opener against the Mariners when he strained his left quadriceps muscle while running to first. That game, called because of snow in the top of the fifth inning, didn't count, but Martinez's injury did. He ended up missing six games because of the quad problem.
This time around, Martinez hurt his hamstring while trying to get to second when one of Nick Masset's pitches was thrown in the dirt. Martinez pulled up lame before getting to the bag and was easily tagged out. Before the injury, he had two hits, a run scored and an RBI in two second-inning at-bats.
"We'll hope for the best and see what we find out," Wedge said.
Martinez was the key to the Indians' offense last season, batting .301 with 25 homers and 114 RBIs and ably filling the void left by Travis Hafner's struggles. He reported to Spring Training camp this year looking to be in better physical shape than ever.
Backup Kelly Shoppach replaced Martinez on Monday and went 1-for-2, scoring the go-ahead run in the eighth inning. If Martinez is down for a substantial amount of time, the Indians have Yamid Haad and Wyatt Toregas available at Triple-A Buffalo to back up Shoppach. _________________ --Alex-- |

Thanks for posting that, every time I looked at the site, it seemed like nothing new was up about his injury... _________________

More on Victor from Indians.com:
No word on Martinez's injury
MRI results unknown; Indians catcher listed as day-to-day
CLEVELAND -- The Indians had no news on catcher Victor Martinez on Tuesday morning.
Whether that's good news remains to be seen.
Martinez was taken in for an MRI after Monday's season opener to determine the severity of the left hamstring strain he suffered while running the bases in the second inning. On Tuesday, the Tribe did not offer any information about the results of the MRI, though media relations director Bart Swain said the team is not currently contemplating a roster move involving Martinez.
Martinez, who went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI on Monday, injured the hamstring while trying to advance from first to second on a pitch in the dirt. He didn't even make it to the bag, pulling up lame and tumbling awkwardly to the ground. He was tagged for the final out of the inning and had to be helped off the field. Backup Kelly Shoppach replaced him.
If the Indians do have to place Martinez on the 15-day disabled list, either Wyatt Toregas or Yamid Haad could be called up from Triple-A Buffalo to back up Shoppach. Toregas might be the more likely choice, because he is on the 40-man roster. If Martinez's injury is of the short-term variety, first baseman Ryan Garko could fill in as an emergency catcher.
For now, Martinez remains listed as day-to-day. The Indians are expected to have more information on his status before Wednesday's game against the White Sox. _________________ --Alex-- |

So the word on Victor is he won't be put on the DL but they're not going to be really using him, maybe doing some pinch hitting, they said they'll probably wait until they go out on a little West Coast trip so the weather will be warmer and he can rest now. _________________

Here's an update on Victor for anyone who hasn't seen it. Hopefully we'll be seeing him play tonight:
Monday return likely for Martinez
If catcher responds well to pregame workouts, he'll start
OAKLAND -- Chances are Victor Martinez will return to the Indians' starting lineup exactly one week after he strained his left hamstring.
Manager Eric Wedge said Martinez's response to pregame work in Anaheim on Monday will determine whether the catcher and cleanup hitter is good to go.
"We're going to have him come in early, take early [batting practice] and let him run the bases," Wedge said of Martinez, who was out of the lineup for a fifth straight day Sunday. "If he's OK, he's in the lineup [Monday] night."
Wedge made it clear that Martinez's return would find him behind the plate, not at first base.
When Martinez comes back, it should be a breath of fresh air for a Tribe team that has struggled without him in the mix. In another effort to spark the laboring lineup Sunday, Wedge moved Travis Hafner back to his usual No. 3 spot and bumped Ryan Garko, who had a hit in each of the season's first five games, to cleanup.
"With Victor in there, the lineup is going to be pretty consistent [this season]," Wedge said. "With him out, we're going to be more creative and proactive."
Third baseman Casey Blake and right fielder Franklin Gutierrez were both given the day off from the starting lineup. Jason Michaels began in right because of his past success (3-for-8 with two RBIs) against A's starter Joe Blanton, and Blake's absence opened the door for Andy Marte to make his first start of the season. _________________ --Alex-- |
