This is a fantastic and interesting article that makes me think differently about this team's future.  Maybe bye bye C.C. is the way to go... I mean signing him could cost us other players in the long run.  I'd rather keep a handful of guys, then just keeping C.C.  We need more than just him to win.  Thoughts?

From www.goerie.com:
Indians should let Sabathia go, put hopes on Carmona
Published: April 04. 2008 6:00AM

I know Indians fans are going to read this and react like my wife would if I suggested "American Idol" would be better without Simon Cowell, but the Tribe really could be a better team three years from now if Mark Shapiro has the guts to let C.C. Sabathia walk away for a giant contract.

I'm not a complete idiot. I realize that Sabathia is a 27-year-old, 6-foot 7-inch, power left-hander just entering his prime pitching years, and I know that makes him basically impossible to compare to any other young pitcher since Randy Johnson before Johnson's back turned into shredded wheat.

And that's exactly why he's going to get a contract that overpays him to the point that a small-market team like the Indians would have no shot at surrounding him with enough talent to win.

Let's say Shapiro instead focuses on right-hander Fausto Carmona, who is 3½ years younger than Sabathia and out-pitched him for long stretches last season.

It was Carmona, not Sabathia, who three-hit the Yankees over nine innings of a no decision in last year's ALDS. And Carmona's monthly earned-run averages for July (1.74) and September (1.7Cool were lower than Sabathia's were for any single month last season. Plus, Carmona looked about 10 years younger in his first start this week, in which he allowed one run over seven innings in a win against the White Sox, than Sabathia did in his.)

Carmona, who won 19 games in 2007 in his first full season as a starter, will become arbitration eligible after the 2009 season, and it could cost the Tribe $10 million to re-sign him to a one-year deal. A long-term contract could run four to five times that.

At roughly the same time the Indians will be forced to decide on whether to give long-term deals to some of their best young hitters, including Ryan Garko, Franklin Gutierrez and Asdrubal Cabrera.

A monster contract for Sabathia could prevent not only Carmona from staying, but maybe Garko or Gutierrez, too.

Sabathia is great for the organization. He came up an Indian and although he's always a hard slider away from straining an abdominal muscle, he is, along with Travis Hafner, Grady Sizemore and Victor Martinez, one of the club's four most marketable players.

But the money that will come Sabathia's way after the season could be obscene.

Couldn't you picture Joe Torre, entering his second season with the Dodgers, pushing owner Frank McCourt to empty the bank account to lure Sabathia, who grew up in California, back to the West Coast?

Couldn't you picture Hank Steinbrenner offering to sell one or more of his four kids on eBay to raise enough cash to make Sabathia a Yankee?

If the Indians win the World Series this year, Sabathia is as good as gone. If they don't, Sabathia returns only if the Wahoo in him yearns to win a title alongside his buds.

Even then, the forces pulling Sabathia away from Cleveland figure to be much stronger than the ones trying to keep him there.

Hmm.. I definitely think we all need to start preparing ourselves for CC's inevitable exit, but after reading this I won't mind so much either. I love CC but I'd rather keep cash in the bank to make sure Grady, Garko, and Carmona stay with us.

Yeah, the guy who wrote this makes a good point. Is it worth having C.C. if we may have to give up half of our team? I don't think so. I mean, the guys a great player, but he's not worth breaking the bank over. Especially with Carmona on staff. And despite the start he had yesterday, Byrd can give you a decent season. So I say so long C.C.

VERY interesting article. Definitely opens my eyes to the possible losses this team could take if we do resign him. At this point, I honestly don't think the Indians are going to give him what he wants, so I think he'll go anyways. But at this point, I think I'm ready for that to happen. Fausto was nearly an Ace type of pitcher last season and he is our ace of the future! And I'd HATE to see us have to get rid of Garko, Guttierez and Asdrubal. Those guys are all young and have GREAT careers ahead of them!

Yep, agreeing with Tiff, it's a very good interesting article. I honesty think C.C.'s got to go..it's like he's not even trying anymore..he's so excited to get out of here, he feels he doesn't even need to try anymore..that's what it feels like to me. PLUS, if that costs us our other players, I don't think so..I'm gonna have to say bye bye Cy guy, pack your bags. I really think Carmona is going to pick up the most wins this year, plus we have Byrdie and Westbrook (who pitched an awesome game, minus two pitches on Thursday). So I just say bye C!

At this point, the only thing that would make it alright to keep him is if Dolan's gonna shell out more cash and raise the team's total salary.  And since he's so cheap I'm gonna guess he won't do that.

I would have to agree with the article at this point, I keep saying that it is the beginning of the season and all but honestly he hasn't shown anything, even during spring training soooo at this point in time if he doesn't start stepping it up I would have to say they need to think about letting good ol' C.C. go.   Neutral
