CLEVELAND (AP) - Longtime Indians bullpen coach Luis Isaac has been fired by Cleveland manager Eric Wedge.
Wedge said Monday that "it was tough" to dismiss the 62-year-old Isaac, who had been with the club for 44 years.
Isaac joined Cleveland's organization as a player in 1965 and also served as a minor league manager and scout.
"Luis was as loyal as the day is long," Wedge said. "Ultimately, I felt we needed a different dynamic in the bullpen for that role. It's been something I've been thinking about for a while."
Wedge said the popular Isaac would not be reassigned in the organization. _________________ ~*Michele*~ |

well hopefully now whoever the new coach is gonna be, he can tame and strengthen up that bullpen, because some of those guys are in dire need of new direction. practice, practice, practice! no more blown games in '09! _________________

This just..saddens me a little. For those of us who got close to the bullpen and all that, he was such a great guy. I feel bad the bullpen wasn't dynamo like everyone expected it to be this year.. _________________

Gosh Bree & who may that be?
But anyways yeah that really sucks ... why would they keep him around 44 years then just dump him?? Are they trying to give him the hint to retire, cause that's what I'd do if I were him! _________________

It's sad, but the bullpen was a mess this year... one of the biggest weak spots for the most part, especially the beginning of the season. It wasn't until the very end that they finally started pitching better. _________________ ~*Michele*~ |

Agreed. I think it may have been the pressure that made them crack. They had SUCH high expectations coming out of '07, ya know? _________________

They're professionals, they should be able to handle pressure. Sadly, all Cleveland teams fold under pressure. Look at the Browns? They were supposed to "go to the Super Bowl" (not my words) and they are terrible right now. _________________ ~*Michele*~ |

Yeah, I agree with this a lot. People who root for Cleveland need to lower there expections when it comes to teams. Not because they don't have a good team...it just shows the team will disappoint them. Not all the time though. Cavs made it to at least the playoffs last year again but yeah. It's sad _________________ *Janel* |

Yeah, I agree they have to handle the pressure professionally, but they ARE human..I mean, that's no excuse for the whole bullpen to crumble into oblivion..but each guy effects the other guy, ya know? _________________

Wow, I read back what I put and I didn't really mean it like that. Makes me sound like I don't believe Cleveland will do anything. I just meant not to hype up a team because then you expect more. Wow. Totally not what I meant. Teach me not to type things on the board in the morning lol
It is no excuse but even professionals have to crumble every once and awhile. That way they can learn to pick themselves up. Which I believe Cleveland's bullpen will...though not rising my expections any. lol. _________________ *Janel* |

Im sad. Luis was a good dude. The bullpen was pretty horrible this year, but nothing was good for the Indians this year. I mean, 44 years! Thats a life time devoted to one team and to just fire him? Well, if bettering the team is the reason they got rid of him, then they have a lot more firing to do...they need to overhaul. Again. That also starts at the managers position too though. Love having Eric as a manager but, seriously? This was supposedly our World Series year...like every other year. It was a lot more than a bullpen coach that didnt steer the team into the right direction, no matter how much everyone says Eric "gets after the players". But then again, Cleveland has had various managers and all sorts of coaches and it just hasnt happened yet. Maybe its something deeper. What the hell did the '48 team have that this one doesnt?!
And as far as being a Cleveland fan goes, I think the government needs to disburse checks to us for all the pain and suffering. Help us get our life back on track after another awful year, haha. _________________

They should've been supplying us with a free bottle of Pepto each game. _________________
