I admit that I do not know anatomy or medical terminology but this is what I understand from what I read.  Grady's second surgery is to help is left abdominal wall.  He is suffering from "athletic pubalgia" which basically means it is an unstable abdominal wall.  Some people wrongfully call it a sports hernia but it is popular in many recreational sports.  The irregularity stemmed from the left groin strain Grady suffered from in Spring Training and was the reason he had issues on the basepaths.  So I admit that I didn't know that the groin and abdominal region were one in the same, but this is what I picked up from the articles, especially those written by Anthony Castrovince.

Hopefully this helps to explain certain things, even though I'm not completely sure about the entire thing or how one can strengthen an abdominal wall.  All I can say is that I will keep him in my prayers and although I don't like the idea of him having surgery elsewhere, I feel better that he is having it done by a specialist.  It seems from something I read that this doctor has performed 2 abdominal surgeries on Cliff Lee when he was an Indian.

see this is why i got confused because i have had abdominal surgeries before and i guarantee you they were no where near the groin lol but idk guess you learn something new everyday. and like i said, at least they found out about it now and are correcting the situation. hopefully after this he won't have any recurrences and will be back to new Smile

Thanks for clearing up the confusion GradysAngel!! I thought that it was the injury of the groin, but all these other names are confusing the heck out of me. All I can say is I'd much rather see him in Cleveland, but if Philly has the specialist than all I can ask is that they PLEASE take care of Grady! You'll be in my prayers Grady.

On the Indians website, they announced that Grady's second surgery was successful and he will begin rehab immediately for both surgeries.  Here is the link: http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090916&content_id=6998224&vkey=news_cle&fext =.jsp&c_id=cle
