What an idiot!  This guy should be fired.  After all of the support hamptonroads.com has shown chris, this moron goes out and reviews the concert comparing it to a "massacre."  Way to show your support!  We need to register on this site and leave comments.... Mad  Mad

The guy is an idiot!!! In all of the years that I have ben reading reviews I have never seen anything so mean. This entire community should be extremely proud of Chris for all of the positive publicity he has brought. Considering AI is the most popular show on TV, people have now heard of Chesapeake, Va. Chris handled himself with so much class, poiss, and total politeness. I am going to post a comment on that site and I think we all should.

What the hell?????????? That was the most stupid thing that site could do would be to take a site that has supported chris all the time, and put some idiot that never obviousley liked the show there to do a review that was so off base it isnt even funny.

way to go, he looks like a complete looser.

I just registered on hamptonroads.com and wrote a comment. Everyone should do that. I do know that the sound system at the coliseum pretty much sucks, but I was up close and it sounded good to me. I asked in my comment if Mr. Venable was a musician? Of course we know the answer to that. What a jerk!!

That was the most horrible thing I have ever read!  And to think we all thought Larry Bonko was the idiot writer!  I am appalled to think this guy is a local here writing about Chris that way.  Did he even attend the concert because he couldn't have been writing about the one I saw Tuesday evening!!!  Maybe he needed attention or something.  That's the worst writing I've ever seen.  He needs a new job and NOT in journalism.  He should be ashamed of himself.  Chris was fantastic.  Most everyone was great.  It was a high-energy show that was exciting.  I'm going to write a comment to this guy, too.  SHAME ON YOU Malcolm Venables!!!

I am embarrassed to even say I am from this area when I read articles like the one by Malcolm Venables on the Hampton concert.  What an unbelievable review!!!  These kids have worked so hard on this show and for poor Chris to have to come home and sing and get that kind of review is ridiculous!!  You don't have to like the concert but at least you can pull for the local guy and not refer to the event as a massacre!  I am writing a comment as well - I am sooooooo angry right now I can't see straight Angry

But I sure hope Malcolm reads it

Were you at the Hampton show Malcolm?

Mr. Venable, I think perhaps after this so called review of the American Idol Live Tour, you will forever be known as Mr. Violable. Look it up.

So many issues to cover and so limited in the number of words I am allowed to use in My review of your review.

First of all, you seem to be unable to make up your mind regarding the opening number, Black Eyed Peas “Let’s Get it Started.” You say it “…promised a pleasant performance”, and in the very next sentence refer to its “….inherent hokieness.”  Seems a bit contradictory and leaves me wondering if it was the song or the performance you hated. You are mistaken: not all ten on stage for the opening number, no Melinda, no Lakisha. In my opinion a perfect song to open any show By the way, I assume you meant hokeyness or hokiness which means phony or phoney.. May I suggest you purchase a thesaurus and turn on spell check.

Your next sentence/paragraph, (run on much Mr. Violable?), regarding  the Motown medley would have been more credible if you had the order of the songs correct. Baby Love started the set followed by Stop In The Name Of Love, and then Grapevine. Your comment “….occasionally hard to hear him. Stop” was one such” . It was probably very hard to hear him since he did not sing Stop; he sang Grapevine. Where exactly were you during the performances, the parking lot or the bar down the street?

Since I want to post this comment I will have to give you the abbreviated version of all your mistakes in the review.

Comparing Phil Stacy to Michael McDonald made no sense whatsoever. McDonald is known as a blue eyed soul singer, Stacy a country singer at heart. Did you simply google “baritone” and McDonalds name came up first. Do you actually know what McDonald sounds like?

I quote you: “Sparks also pumped force into “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love”) with Jones” That was Melinda not Lakisha. Once again, I ask, where exactly were you during the concert?

Sanjaya and Haley were actually in key and it’s obvious to anyone watching that they can dance and entertain. The crowd loved them.

I do understand that many people are not crazy about beatboxing, I am one of them. However, I must give props to Blake Lewis for taking an old tired song and rocking the house with it: You Give Love A Bad Name.  I think Doug E Fresh is a more credible authority on beat boxing and he said Blake rocks. You on the other hand, can not even spell beat box correctly, it is not a hyphenated word. Again, please turn on spell check.

I suspect you came up with all your clever murder analogies long before the Idol Tour came to town, and simply inserted the names of performers and songs. I understand that perhaps you wanted to appear to be objective and not a “home team cheerleader”; however you ended up appearing to be a Homer, as in Simpson. Where did you earn your degree in journalism? I am an accountant by trade and the overall snide tone of your article, the numerous errors, and  your inability to convey a coherent thought, leaves me absolutely despondent over the quality of education in this country. In my opinion you would be better suited to a career in a gas station with the occasional visit to the local comedy club open mic night. Apparently the other people that commented on your article agree with me. Remember, spell check son.

I believe that the talent Chris Richardson has in the area of singing, entertaining, song writing, and plain old charisma will take him a long way in his chosen profession.  The fact that he is an egoless, thoughtful, caring human being will take him a long way in his personal life.

Jealousy and envy are evil emotions Mr. Venable, try not to be bitter, at least when you are writing a review.

One last thing dear mediocre Malcolm. Have you seen this young man?

My comment on this site:

Malcolm, you're a fool!
Malcolm - You just cooked your own goose. Your review of the Idol concert was mean and full of inaccuracies. Not only is it obvious to the average reader that you have had it in for Chris Richardson since he auditioned for American Idol, but this review sealed the fact that no matter what kind of performance was exhibited on Tuesday night, you were going to slam it as hard as you could. The massacre analogy was ridiculous and immature, but what else can we expect from anyone that writes for The Virginian Pilot? Those of us from around here expect no less from your rag. When Chris is a major star in the music industry and you need press time, get to the back of the line, where you belong!

In addition I will be writing a letter (with no word limitations) to Mr. Venables and sending a copy to his Editor and the CEO of the papers parent company.

One more thought, my dear Richness sisters.

Reviews don't make or break careers, fans do..

Lot's of great reviews, from around the country, two small local papers mean next to nothing.
