Oh boy...great thread to try and get everyone to participate and become more knowledgeable, but its possible there could be many differing opinions. So, for those who will read and post here, just be prepared.

Barack Obama is my guy so far this presidential election. Although he lacks experience, his vision for this country is something that I have great respect for. He is a great orator and has great leadership ability. He is a strong-willed man and most of his views go right along with mine. As a black man, Obama winning the Democratic nod and the whole election would be a HUGE step for this country. It will say a lot about how far we have come. Remember, "All men are created equal."

I could go on and on, but I'll save it for another time.

Although I am a registered Democrat, the person I would like to see win the Republican nomination is Mike Huckabee. As a former governer, he has the potential to lead this country as well.

I'm looking forward to a great 2008 campaign as I am always super involved...I'll attend several rallies and volunteer when I can. If you all find a candidate that you like, I urge you to do the same. You will meet and network with lots of new people and its also a lot of fun.

Read up on all of the candidates and even if it seems boring, try to find a way to make it fun for you. This is a very important election and I urge all of you (even those who aren't old enough to vote) to educate yourselves and become involved...no matter who your candidate may be. Smile

Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now. hehe...

Hillary is my girl....I am bummed that she has not been doing well in Iowa and now looks like she'll lose New Hampshire as well. I donate regularly to Hillary's campaign...my husband is not a fan of hers and does not like seeing my money go there.....I feel though that with either Obama or Clinton we really can't lose. I am obviously a Democrat so can't say that I am in favor of any of the Republican candidates....it is time for the Dems to take back the White House and get things back on track!!!!!!

Thanks for starting this thread, eBomb. I agree with TANT! on the two candidates (Obama for the Dems and Huckabee for the Repubs). I am a registered Democrat, but four years ago, I voted Republican. I guess you can kind of say that I'm in the middle now.

I really enjoy seeing Hillary getting egg on her face. The impossible is happening. She was supposed to take Iowa in full force and the news reports stated that NH was supposedly her firewall...a wall that no one other candidate but Hillary could go through. We are now seeing the tides turn in a drastic way. Who would of thought Hillary being in third?! And within her own party much less. Hillary has the experience, but I can't stand her...I'm sorry. I'm all about slick Willy, but Hillary's no friend of mines.

I watched the ABC debate over the weekend. I only caught the Democrat portion. Richardson had me cracking up. Barak had an off night...you can tell he was tired. I just read that he is fighting illness (not serious). But I guess that didn't stop NH for supporting him thus far.

ETA: Did anyone catch 20/20 on Friday? Hillary basically cost herself Iowa. Her campaign was doing these telephone polls in Iowa that asked closed ended questions about her opponents to the voters, but skewed them in a negative light. The calls came in as if it were an independent firm, however voters knew it was Hillary's campaign because the questions were all negative towards Edwards and Obama and it had NO questions about Hillary. Voters are very smart.

Can someone do a brief description of the candidates and their beliefs, positions, etc. so I can catch myself up OR send me in the direction of where I can get it all at one place?

My local News site has a "Candidate Matchmaker." It asks you a series of questions and then matches you up with a candidate. You still need to do your research, but this should be a fun exercises. I plan on taking the quiz sometime later today.

Link: http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/myfox/pages/News/Politics?pageId=3.14

Go to the "Candidate Matchmaker" on the right hand side of the screen.

Pink, each candidates' website usually does a GREAT job of giving brief descriptions on the issues and where they stand on them.

Since I don't have much work to do today and the boss is off (woot woot), i'll do some research and post as many links as I can find.

Also, I also enjoy taking those "Candidate Matchmaker" types of quizzes. They are sort of helpful in pointing you in the right direction as to which candidate you may want to research some more. Don't necessarily count that as a strong hold on who you should vote for though. Just use it as a supplement. Smile

I love this thread. Smile

Here are links to several of the candidates websites. I've linked them directly to where they discuss their stance on issues. Feel free to explore each website though to learn even more about each candidate:

Democratic Candidates:

Senator Barack Obama - http://www.barackobama.com/issues/

Senator Hillary Clinton - http://www.hillaryclinton.com/issues/

Former Senator John Edwards - http://www.johnedwards.com/issues/

Governer Bill Richardson - http://www.richardsonforpresident.com/issues/

Congressman Dennis Kucinich - http://www.dennis4president.com/go/issues/

Republican Candidates:

Former Governer Mike Huckabee - http://www.mikehuckabee.com/?FuseAction=Issues.Home

Senator John McCain - http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Issues/

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani - http://www.joinrudy2008.com/issues/

Former Governer Mitt Romney - http://www.mittromney.com/Issues/index

Congressman Ron Paul - http://www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/

Congressman Duncan Hunter - http://www.gohunter08.com/inner.asp?z=4

Former Senator Fred Thompson - http://www.fred08.com/Principles/PrinciplesSummary.aspx

So that is what I've been able to find. If anyone knows of any others who may be running for a different party platform, please feel free to post those as well!

Pink is right as well...many newssource websites have bios of most candidates. Most of those are more like summaries but will give you a good insight into each candidates' stance on issues. If you'd like more in depth info, I'd suggest visiting a candidate's website.

Here's a thought...either take a "candidate matchmaker" type of quiz (they are all over the place if you search on google) or look at summaries on each candidate at another website. That should give you an idea of which candidates you might lean towards. Once you have that figured out, take a look at those candidate's websites to get more in depth information. Smile
