Okay, I know that some time ago, Pinkness started a thread of the same nature. But since I decided that I'm going to go on a diet starting this Sunday, I wanted to declare it and perhaps get a new support thread going.

They always say that when you decide to go on a diet, to tell someone so you can be held accountable. So I am making this OFFICIAL!

For those of you who don't know, I am a habitual yo-yo dieter. I know that's not a good thing. I will say that when I put my mind to something, I stick with it. That's why when I start a diet, I usually finish it to the best of my ability. Two years ago, I lost almost 50 lbs. I was probably the happiest of my life aside from some of the other things that was going on like grad school and messing around with stupid boys. LMAO I slowly gained back every single pound Sad My doctor has been on me to lose the weight back. So that's what I'm gunna do.

Right now, I'm in my preparation phase. My doctor recommended "Glycemic Index For Dummies," so I'm gunna check that out. I did think about just going on "South Beach," which did work for me, but I'm open to anything. I also tried Medical Weight Loss (which is a medically supervised plan, which I hardly ate anything), which worked REALLY well. But I don't have that kind of money to try that again.

I also thought about Weight Watchers. But perhaps I will let that be my Phase #2 approach. Right now, I just need something simple to jump start the process.

Anyway, any ideas that you have will be appreciated. You can see my up-and-down journey on my MySpace. I wanna get down and stay down!

Good for you Storie, my weight has crept back up also... Sad  I try to stick with South Beach as much as I can and it DOES work, except living in a house with three guys who HAVE TO EAT BREAD, RICE, PASTA AND POTATOES, it's soooooooo hard Confused  I'll try and do this along with ya, and see how it goes.  Hug

South Beach is good, I'm on a variation of that. Just MORE protein less carbs, if your hungry have eggs or chicken or a protein shake.

I eat 5 times a day, it's like small meals protein and veggies, nuts, berries, cheese, protein shakes stuff like that and do an hour and a half at the gym 3 days a week.

I'm working on it, I've lost 56 pounds so far in the past 2-3 years, my goal is 5 more before my trip haha. I'm working it LOL!! It's alot of work, and I'm not always good on my diet, but it's coming off slowly but surely.  The exercise helps alot, I've lost way more clothing sizes than i have weight.

Yay Meamesy!!!

I actually took an extended lunch hour Ninja and I have a book about the Glycemic Index diet. So I will keep you posted on that. My Doctor recommended "Glycemic Index for Dummies", but this book that I have breaks things down by red, yellow, green. So it's an easier read. The lady at Waldenbooks told me that it was a VERY popular book in that store.

ETA: Yay Heather! That's so awesome. My problem is that I lose weight really fast and gain it all back over time. I don't stop myself while I'm behind rofl

Good for you Storie. The only time I ever went on a real diet it was called "First Place." It was actually a Chrisitan based diet plan where you kept a food journal, had a specific caloric plan, read scriptures and other Bible verses, memorized a weekely verse, and met once a week at a local church.. It was kind of like a weight loss/Bible study. I lost 20 pounds. The most I had ever lost in my life. I think if I ever went on a diet to lose a large amount of weight I would try that again if I could find it at a local church or do Weight Watchers.
I have been dieting and have lost 5 pounds which is good for me. I have 5 more to go. I do exercisse ALOT, and I think they both go hand in had. I try to watch what I eat, and living alone makes it easier.Best of luck to you. I know if you put your mind to it it will work. When you are old like me it is extra tough.

First of all Steph you/me/us are not old... got it mafia, we are like a fine wine--we get better with age beerchug (pretend its wine and not beer). Smile We are all beautiful no matter what our size, age or color... you are too hard on yourself like all the rest of us are about ourselves.  Storie and Meames I'm on board.  I too have always been a yo yo dieter.  I would lose and then eventually it was back.  About six years ago I did the Weight Watchers point system on my own, didn't go to classes or anything, and I went to CURVES... I was wearing a size 16 and heading to an 18 when I said nonono I'm happy to say I'm still wearing a size 10/12.  Of course when I stopped smoking (7 months ago) celebrate you guessed it I started to gain weight and was not eating anymore than I normally did-- it was just the not smoking thing.  I've somewhat got that under control but I would really like to lose 20 lbs.  So ladies, count me in Cheerleader  We may start out looking like this Penguin but we will end up being thin and trim like this Pickle  Love ya guys...

Okay, so I started my "new way of eating" Saturday afternoon in order to wean myself into my Sunday routine. And I gave to say, so far, so good! Saturday and yesterday, I have been staying well under 900 cals and I haven’t been starving! Also, looks like I will be well on my way to staying under 900 today. I have already pre-planned my menu for the day on Fitday.com (which is a free fitness planner…you guys should check it out).

I haven’t finished reading my book "The Glycemic Index Diet", but I read enough to go shopping on Saturday. I also have been taking SlimQuik drink supplements along with working out with free weights and doing a little bit of cardio on my Gazelle. I would like to step out my workout, which I plan on doing next week when I travel to Portland (gym at the hotel!)

Here’s an idea of what a typical day for me looks like:

Breakfast:  Southwestern Egg Beaters with 2 slices of Canadian bacon
Snack: Apple
Lunch: Turkey sandwich on whole wheat tortilla with Dijon mustard and lettuce w/ Campbell's Healthy Request Cream of Chicken Soup
Snack: baby carrots
Dinner: Chicken breast, asparagus, and baby spinach leaf salad with low fat balsamic vinaigrette
Dessert:  Klondike slim-a-bear ice cream sandwich (100 cals)
Snack: Grapes

There is some variety on this plan. I had Go Lean cereal today instead of eggs and bacon. I’ll let you know how I did next Sunday!

Alright kiddies, I'm making progress! Last week around this time, I took all of my measurements and I started eating healthier. I'm now happy to report some results!

I've lost about 4 lbs so far. celebrate I really thought I would lose about 5 lbs because the first week is usually water weight, but 4 lbs is GREAT! I also took measurements and I've lost about .5 inches off my waist and about .5 - 1 inches off my biceps, forearms, thighs and caves (each). So I'm losing inches! clap

I haven't been working out faithfully, but that will change when I fly to Portland on Monday. I will be utilizing the gym when I get back to the hotel each night from my workshops. But I guess the hard part will be to "stay pure" of the forbidden foods while I'm out of town. I wont have the luxury of preparing my meals. So I have to shop wisely. Corporate will be providing lunch at the workshop, which frightens me. LOL! I hope we at least get a salad going on and not pizza, because that would kill me.

Anyway, it is weight loss that motivates me to steer clear from the foods that cause weight gain. And the goal for October is to lose 16 more pounds, which is easy to do when you are as heavy as I am. Sad Once October's goal is met, it's pretty much smooth sailing from here on out (10 lb loss a month). I plan to be at my goal by March 1, 2009. Smile I have a gym right next door to work, so I will be going there faithfully starting a week from this Monday.

So, anyone else on board? How's it going so far?

Good for you Storie! Working out is definitely the key. As you know I work out every day of my life. That is why it is very hard for me to lose weight because my body is used to exercise. The only way I could lose what I want would be to work out twice a day. That's not going to happen. I try to change it up and also do weight and strength training every third day. I will never be happy with my weight, but I just wonder what I would look like if I didn't work out. At my age you have to be careful about what you lose, because you end up losing your face which makes you look old. You are young so you don't have to worry about that. My weight fluctuates between 2-4 pounds so I use my clothes as my scale. If they fit I'm OK. If not it's time to stop eating.
I am proud of you. Keep up the good work!!!!!!! Cheerleader

Time for another update. Haha!

I haven't really been sticking to my diet to the tee, but I am still losing weight (albeit very slowly).

I dropped down to a whole new group of tens (i.e. 150, 140, 130, are what I refer to as "groups of tens"). So that's reassuring. I'm getting close to another group of tens, which is awesome. My goal was to lose 20 lbs in October and 10 in November. I'm not sure if I'm going to meet that goal being that October ends in about a week and 2 days. I might just have a 10 lb weight loss, which is all good. I am very fearful of what Thanksgiving and Christmas may do to me. LMAO But I've survived before when I was smaller, and I can do it again! celebrate

I've been put on medication for ADD, so that should help curb my appetite. I just started taking it today. I also bought Chromium per my doctor's advice, which should help keep me away from sweets. Haha! Now if I can just put my son's hot Cheetos down, I will be fine. LMAO
