|
This is a copy of my letter to Mr. Venables at the Virginian Pilot. I've been working on it for a while and researching where to send it. It will go out in tomorrows snail mail and to their emails tonight.
September 27th, 2007
Dear Mr. Venables,
I am not sure if you remember, but you interviewed me for an article that ran on Wednesday, April 11th, 2007. I was hoping that after I had given of my time to meet your needs, that you would allow me the courtesy of a response to my repeated emails to you prior to the American Idol Tour concert at Hampton Coliseum on Tuesday, September 18th, 2007.
In those emails I alerted you to the fact that American Idol Season 6 contestant, Chris Richardson, a native of Chesapeake, had fans coming from all across the country to support him at his hometown concert. This would have made a wonderful positive feature story for The Virginian Pilot and it would show the region that this talented young man has the capability of bringing economic value to our area. Instead, you decided to ignore my emails and pursue your own agenda by writing the worse concert review this area has ever seen!
It appears that you wanted to blast this event no matter how good or bad it was. I’m curious as to why? Your lack of response to my repeated emails indicates you intended to write a negative article from the very beginning. Anyone who was at the concert knows that a lot of points mentioned in your article were completely inaccurate. This makes me wonder if you ever really report the facts or do you just make it up as you go along according to how you feel. From here on out, any reviews you write will be without merit because of the inaccuracies and the apparent hidden agendas prevalent in your writing.
Regardless of how you feel about Chris Richardson or any other artist, it should NEVER be displayed in a column that you write as a REPORTER. Personal agendas belong in the editorial section. I am so discouraged that you took this opportunity to slam and discredit a young man who has displayed his talent as a singer, songwriter and musician, especially since he is from our area.
Nothing less than an apology to Chris Richardson, his family, fans and the other American Idol contestants is warranted. A retraction of your article is also needed. If you are not able to make a public apology in the Virginian Pilot then I, along with many others will be cancelling my subscription within two weeks.
Sincerely,
Mandy Eames

That's really good. I'll have to remember to never buy insertions from that newspaper, and I'll let them know why! _________________

Nice Meames! It was all very mature and business like and right to the point! Get on with your bad self. I am meaning to write one too, even tho I am not from that area and therefore cannot use the cancellation threat. But I think the more responses like this they get, the better! Down with Mr. Venables!!! _________________

Overall, a great article. However, when will these reporters learn to get the names right of the songs??? Seriously..."Shot through the heart"? Oh and writing that the Beatles song they did was Let it Be and not Hey Jude??? Hello?! Sacriledge! (I am a HUGE Beatle fan, btw. I go crazy whenever I see Sligh wearing his Abbey Road shirt, and I forget to mention it everytime I see him! Gah!) Totally agree with her on the Lady Marmalade outfits. But I actually love the bit with Chriljaya. And yes, at the State Fairs the Idols take FOREVER to do the whole encore thing. I noticed in Hampton the time between all that was MUCH faster! Seriously, I'm surprised people didn't up and leave at the State Fair thinking the concert was over, that's how long they took to come back out. But I still love 'em. Thanks for posting this Brenda! _________________

You will LOVE my younger brother, Nurse. He is a humongous Beatles fan. It's sick. He cried when George Harrison died and he doesn't cry. _________________ ~Storiebon da THB Duchess~
