Went and picked up my packet from the Marathon registration Expo yesterday...this is soooo well organized. All the peeps we met were soooo friendly. Found my name on the big board to get my RACE NUMBER and then proceeded to all the different stations to get my stuff...shirt, goody bag, race chip for my shoes!!! Got hubby to take pics. Tammy and the rest of the team will get their packets when they get into Memphis, which I think now is going to be REALLY early on Saturday. I can't wait to see Tammy Pray for Tammy especially tomorrow, it's going to be hard for her....the nurses from St. Jude want her to meet them there at the hospital and Tammy hasn't been back since Amanda passed. We are all going to walk together as a team...Tammy, Matthew, Lindsey (Amanda's bff), Amanda's nurses from St. Jude, Barbie Valerio (Amandas friend from fro patro I think) and me. There are three thousand WALKERS in the GRIZZLIES Marathon 5K, I think 5,000 runners in the half marathon and 3,000 runners in the full marathon (26+ miles!!!).
I'll try and keep peeps updated throughout the day by text as we travel back to NC after the race. It's an 8 hour drive...please keep Amanda's Idols in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow and thanks again for all your support. _________________ <a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/Chris%20banners%20and%20siggys/?action=view ¤t=untitled.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/Chris%20banners%20and%20siggys/untitled.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> |

I finally donated Meames. Since I don't like putting my info online I printed the form and am mailing the check today. Sorry it took so long. Times are REALLY tight for me right now. Good luck today! I will be there in spirit! _________________

We arrived in Memphis late on the night of Monday December 1st. The St. Jude walk was not to be until that following Saturday, but hubby had a business meeting scheduled for Tuesday (2nd) so that’s why we had to get there so early. I text messaged back and forth with Tammy to let her know we were there and we firmed up plans for where and when to meet for the walk. Between Monday and the walk on Saturday, Doug and I enjoyed the sights and sounds of Memphis, oh yes, and of course the food!!!! LOL!! On Thursday afternoon hubby and I went to the Marathon Expo to check in and pick up my registration package. The Expo was incredibly organized, and everyone was so friendly. It was very easy to figure out where to go and what you had to do.
When I got there I checked my race number on the board.
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P1020443.j pg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020443.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Then went and picked up my registration packet.
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P1020430.j pg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020430.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
From there went and verified my hip!!
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P1020432.j pg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020432.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Oh, CHIP!! The chip went on your shoe, it was electronic and when you walk/run over the mats at the start and finish of the race it registered your start and stop times. I came in 1931 out of 2147. (Hey at least I wasn’t last….I promised Amanda I would finish!!)
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P102 0431-2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020431-2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Then I went and got my shirt
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P1020434.j pg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020434.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
And my goody bag that was filled with all kinds of coupons, bookmark, notepad, bracelet,
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P102 0437.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020437.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Then hubby and I walled around the Expo vendors and bought some STUFF! Tell me the pic he’s standing in front of doesn’t make you wonder that Amanda wasn’t there with us!
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P1020438.j pg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020438.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
I checked out the route we would walk.
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P1020440.j pg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020440.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Tammy was going to come into Memphis on the Friday night and get her stuff, but plans changed and she and I ended up arranging to meet at the auto Zone Park at 6:00am on Saturday morning where she would pick up her packet. Now get this, there were THOUSANDS of peeps descending on Memphis that morning so hubby and I decided we would get there REALLY early to get a parking space and to make sure we weren’t late meeting Tammy. Now there were literally hundreds of parking garages with thousands of spaces for the event….hubby and I are sitting there sipping on our coffee kind of chuckling that we were way to early. Tammy had called earlier and said it was going to be close for her to be at the park by 6:00am. I see a car drive in with a young girl wearing a very familiar pompom hat and the plates on the car were from Arkansas. It was TAMMY and Lindsey!!!! (Amanda’s BFF!!) They parked right behind us!!! Now that peeps is NOT a coincidence…it gave me chills!!!! And I got more chills today as I grabbed a “piece of paper” in my car to scribble a note on, I noticed it was the parking ticket/receipt we were given when we parked the car in that garage that morning…..it has the word HOPE on it!!!!
We all hugged and I introduced hubby and I gave her the picture that Chris had signed for her at the charity gig in NC…she was very appreciative. We all made our way to the park to take care of business, now for some reason they had Tammy registered to RUN in the Marathon…she was so cute…She’s like, “Do I look like I run marathons??!!” So poor Tammy had to leave auto Zone park and go to Fed Ex Forum to get her sons packet and her number, then had to walk all the way back to auto zone park to get her packet, it was crazy cold and poor Tammy felt like she’d run a marathon by the time she’d finished getting all her stuff together.
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P1020451.j pg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020451.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
I helped Tammy and Lindsey get their chips on their shoes.
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P1020453.j pg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020453.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Amanda’s brother Matt was on his way, he had parked his car at St. Jude and was riding one of the trolley/trams to the event with the nurses that were going to walk for Amanda. With the blessings of cell phones we were all able to find each other in time for the start of the event. I put Matt’s chip on his shoe and we were ready for the OFF!!!
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P1020458.j pg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020458.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
A guy in the crowd
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P1020470.j pg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020470.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Amanda’s Idols ready to WALK FOR AMANDA AND TYLER! Right before the start I pulled out some extra green bracelets that Jan had given me at Amanda’s funeral in June…there were JUST enough that EVERYONE of Amanda’s Idols had one on for the walk!
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P1020461.j pg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020461.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
It was very hard not to get emotional as we walked, knowing that Amanda soooo badly wanted to do that walk. It was such an honor to be there for her and her buddy Tyler. I was in awe of the amount of peeps there were and ALL ages, from very young to very old.
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P1020462.j pg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020462.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
There were people all throughout the walk standing out on the street cheering us on, offering us water and Gatorade, clapping, encouraging us to keep going, thanking us for doing the walk. There were local radio stations broadcasting on the sidewalks as we walked by, there were occasional performing artists singing songs as we went by, there were members of churches ringing bells, there were employees of local businesses outside clapping us on…it was extremely moving.
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=marathon3. jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/marathon3.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Mile marker 1!! So it took us over 20 minutes…but that’s ok
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=marathon8. jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/marathon8.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
As we walked by St. Jude Tammy did shed a few tears, and it was hard to swallow the lump in my throat…God bless you Amanda Jones was all I could say in my mind.
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=marathon7. jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/marathon7.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Tammy recognized a lady on the walk who presently has a child in St. Jude and she walked with her for a little while and chatted with her.
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=marathon5. jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/marathon5.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Tammy during the walk
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=marathon11 .jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/marathon11.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Not a very pic I’m afraid, but this is Lindsey, Amandas Best Friend…she wore Amanda’s hat and scarf for the walk
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=marathon13 .jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/marathon13.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
I enjoyed chatting with Matt (Amanda’s brother) as we walked…what an amazing young man he is. Quite simply has it all together is focused on what he wants to do with his life and is going after it. Tammy has done an amazing job raising her kids. Here’s Matt walking with Tammy
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=marathon10 .jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/marathon10.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Lindsey at mile marker 2
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=marathon4. jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/marathon4.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
It was quite funny, I joked with Matt and Lindsey that I had read somewhere that all but the last 300 walkers were going to get a medal and they said, “We want a medal,” so they took off running the last half mile or so…I tried to take off after them, but this old soul don’t run as good as she used to (that’s a joke!!), so I let ‘em go and just ran the last few yards (looked good for the video hahahaha).
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P1020475.j pg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020475.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Plus I wanted to get ahead of Tammy so I could take a picture of her with my phone coming across the finish line. Hubby had my main camera and so on the route I had to rely on my phone for photos and they didn’t turn out that good. I DID take a picture of Tammy crossing the finish line, but then I saw her hugging Troy (the male nurse who Amanda adored) and I wanted to get a picture of that and forgot to save the previous picture!! I was soooo aggravated with myself. Troy giving Tammy big hugs after the walk.
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=marathon2. jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/marathon2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
This picture of Tammy with one of Amanda’s nurses
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=marathon1. jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/marathon1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
We took several group pictures
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P1020481.j pg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020481.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
and then we all decided to go to T.G.I. Fridays and get breakfast, unfortunately there was an hour wait for a table and Matt was not able to wait that long so we said our goodbyes to him and he walked back to St. Jude. We all sat around and chatted in an adjoining lobby of a hotel. The hour wait turned out to be about 30 minutes or so, so it wasn’t too bad. Here’s Tammy and Lindsey chilling out
<a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/?action=view¤t=P1020482.j pg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/memphis%20marathon/P1020482.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
After breakfast hubby and I had to get on the road to get back to my mother in laws in NC before it got too late. We walked back to the garage with Tammy and Lindsey. She was going to meet up with the nurses at St. Jude. She had not been back there since Amanda had been there, so it was going to be hard. The angels of St. Jude were all going to be there with her to help her get through it….incredible!!
Tammy is an amazing woman, she really is…she is determined to continue fighting for Amanda. I hope we can all get involved with her somehow. She has a few things she wants to do all in memory of Amanda and to raise funds for St. Jude and Leukemia awareness. The date for next years walk is December 5th! Mark your calendars and make plans to be there. I’ve been throwing some ideas around with Jan and Tammy and my hubby, and here’s what I’m thinking. First off, next year lets have as many RICHNESS peeps there as possible, but I’m also thinking and hoping that Chris would want to get involved…initially I thought just walk with us…but then hubby had a great suggestion. Why don’t we try and get St. Jude to allow a concert of sorts the night before the event (Amanda’s Idols….Chris R, Chris S, Phil Stacey, Elliott Yamin, Jordin) right there in either auto Zone park or Fed Ex Forum…am I thinking too big? There could be a charge for the concert and all the proceeds would go to benefit St. Jude. What do you all think? Do you think it’s something we could at least start the ball rolling on, and if so where do we start?? LOL!!
I do have a video of the start but am having problems getting it loaded.....no surprise there!! I'll get it up here ASAP! _________________ <a href="http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/Chris%20banners%20and%20siggys/?action=view ¤t=untitled.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z92/mandyeames/Chris%20banners%20and%20siggys/untitled.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> |
