Well guys. I've asked you to pray alot for me last year. And so far, so good! I was having issues with heat and you prayed me through. I was having issues with hot water, and you prayed me through. I wanted to get this job that I have now, and you guys prayed me in. I am forever grateful to all of you. Hug

I asked you guys to pray for favor for me to get this position that I interviewed for back on Halloween. I didn't get the job, but I truly believe that the door was shut for a good reason. Maybe I wouldn't have been happy there. I'm happy here for the most part, but overall, I don't think that I'm technical enough to really embrace this job and take it where it truly needs to go. This is why I believe God is taking me out of here.

So here's the good news. My boss' boss has really been my advocate ever since the voluntary layoffs were announced. He has been calling people left and right. He even followed up on my last interview, and that was when they told him that they selected someone else (nice of them to tell me that...NOT! LMAO).

Anyway, I applied for another position in Purchasing for Detroit Diesel, our sister company which is right around the corner from here. Rich (my boss' boss) used to work there. So he knows EVERYONE. In fact, one of my classmates from MBA school knew Rich and she told me to use her as a reference (I still owe that girl lunch Smile). So anyway, Rich calls the hiring manager in Purchasing, who he knows, and in his words, gave her his "best sales pitch" about me.

She hasn't even seen my resume yet, but that prompt her to say that she would ping HR about it. Right now, they are only placing internal candidates for the position, which is great news for me. Another great thing is that they still haven't found the right person for the job yet. celebrate

So I'm gearing up for that phone call. Yesterday, I was hoping to land one of those uber jobs outside of the company that I applied for on Monster, but this job in Purchasing is not too shabby. It's a lateral move, which is good and I get to stay with this great company. The benefits are second to none and the company encourages personal growth.

This is my first time in 10 years not working for a contract firm. And if anyone knows anything about working contract (i.e. agency), it can be like a black hole. Basically, large companies invest more on agency employees because they aren't a huge liability to them due to benefits, retirement compensation, etc. When I was at Ford, they laid off their own people left and right. But even today, they are still taking in agency people. People can even contract at the same place for up to 20 years! It's good if you love what you are doing and if you get paid well, but not good if you want to grow. Promotions as an contract employee are non-existant. When I started working at Ford as a contract employee, I only got one raise in four years, which was for $800 annually  Uncle Sam got his cut and I was left with only t-shirt money. AND I got more responsibility. I went from supporting one group in IT to ALL of the groups in IT. It suck and blew at the same time. LMAO

So for the first time of my life, I feel important professionally. I got to travel, I got my own laptop, my own company cell phone, my own corporate charge card. Not sure if I will have a charge card or a huge travel agenda over at Diesel, but I will keep my same level. And for now, that works until I can prove myself with the company, increase my education, and learn new things. Technically, I should be making more that I do with my education and job experience, but I wont be doing bad. I make WAY more than I was making six months ago. So God is good and I know that things will only get better. I get to hopefully keep my job and gain some more longevity and experience. Maybe even take advantage of their tuition reimbursement program. Smile

Thanks again everyone and sorry for the novel. Just wanted to share some good news with my favorite peeps. Much love!

I'm not 100% sure how my interview went yesterday. But I did get some good feedback concerning my presentation. Yes, I had to do a presentation for my Interview. Rolling Eyes LMAO

So here's the deal, I come in and they put me in a room and give me a scenario on paper (a current hot topic on the news today dealing with our industry and the effects it may have on Global Purchasing). Then I had 1 hour to prepare my presentation using the whiteboard and then 10 minutes to present to management. After my presentation, the four managers introduced themselves and then I gave them a little background on myself.

Then one of them (the German one, of course LMAO) asked me the following question: "Let's say I want to buy this room. And I will pay you $1 for each of these itty bitty squares on the wall paper (note: and they were TINY!). How much will you charge me?" They gave me about a good 10 minutes to figure out this crummy problem as they talked amongst themselves.

I basically told them there are 2 solutions: The scientific answer ($1 X #squares on one wall X 4 walls) and there's a practical answer (you can only buy the room, not price it by squares). The German lady was impressed by my double answer, but that wasn't what she was looking for. Then the other woman (the one who is the new position will be reporting to) asked me if I counted ALL the squares in the room because the answer is an actual number Shocked

"Well," I said. "I only counted up to this point (I pointed to the wall that lined up with my knee) and that's about 100 squares." Then they said "okay!" I was under the impression that I was getting closer. So then it CLICKED! I took that same measurement of 100 squares with my arms as a ruler and counted upward. Then I counted horizontally. I multiplied the #'s together and I got a #. Then I multiplied it by the 4 walls. EUREKA! That was what they wanted.

Man, I felt like I was borderline getting hazed. LOL! But I survived. If they like me, I will get a 2nd interview with peers and a VP and we'll take it from there.

Keep those prayers coming!

See that wall question...what in the world does that have to do with diesel??? Shocked I liked your double answer Storie, shows you're thinking outside the box....but to think you'd sit there and count squares...ugh!!! I know they were probably looking for your problem solving/analytical skills, but still that was kinda lame Rolling Eyes I'm sure these perps get paid the big bucks too....sooooo aggravating!!!

Holy moly storie! Good for you for hanging in there. I would have probably choked and ran out of the room crying. You are quite the woman. I have never heard of such a thing in an interview. That had to have been TOUGH! Giving you an hour to prepare a presentation?!?!?! YIKES!

But there is one thing I am sure of....you NAILED it! I'm quite convinced that they were very impressed with you. Sounds like you showed them that are a great problem solver.

I will definitely be praying for you and sending POSITIVE thoughts your way. Crossing my fingers girl!

xoxo!
