So I just thought to start a thread where we could share our own memories of the pop legend Michael Jackson.

In high school, I was on the dance team, and when it was close to Halloween, we put on a special performance of Thriller. We did some of the original choreography, but it wasn't the exact same. I wish I had pictures, but we tried to look dead, with bright red lipstick, teased hair, ripped pants... That was a blast!

And just for the record, Black and White and Beat It are my other 2 favorite Michael videos.

I'd love to hear about your memories!

Gah this is so unreal to me, my brother called as I was about to take a nap... and he was like "Michael Jackson's dead." Immediately I thought it was a joke, especially with Farrah passing that day as well so I ran to the computer and sure enough it was true Sad My BFF and I were JUST singing "Billie Jean" in the car 2 days ago. And this past Saturday we were doing the "Thriller" dance in a bar. I'm passed the shock and passed the grieving stage now I'm celebrating his music.

My memory... I used to be TERRIFIED of the "Thriller" video but it was one of the first video's I had ever seen. Now I can do the dance and sing every word. LMAO But my fave Michael song is "PYT" and "Bad." But I love every song I've heard of is so narrowing it down was hard.

RIP MJ

I have so many memories of MJ. I came out the womb a music lover. My father would blast music constantly on our HUGE record player. We had all of the Jackson's albums (and 8-Track cassettes LOL!). And of course, there was "Off The Wall"...which I absolutely adored as a little girl.

But two memories that stick out for me right now. The first would be when my father bought our very first VCR. It was a Beta Max, which some of you probably never even heard of (along with vinyl and 8-tracks haha). Anyway, the VERY first video we played on our brand new VCR was "The Making of Thriller". My family watched it non-stop. It was such a wonderful memory.

Another memory was with my late grandmother who passed away 23 years ago this month. She loved "Billie Jean" and she would play that record non-stop and would dance with her 'drank' in one hand, and a ciggy in the other. LOL!!! And I would dance with her. That song always reminded me of her.

As a little girl, I was IN LOVE with Michael. I thought we were going to get married when I grew up. Haha!

But let me just say that I am so pleased that most of the things people have said about MJ since yesterday have been about the legacy of his music and what he brought to us as a consummate entertainer/performer. He was a phenomenal singer, songwriter, and performer. He had flaws, just like we all do. And let me not get into how his childhood was absolutely ruined because of greed. I'll save that for another day. But as someone on TV said so correctly, Michael was someone's son, father, brother, nephew, and friend. In spite of how some people felt about him, they should remember that first and foremost.

It's times like these that make us all reflect on life as a whole. We can't waste another moment, for tomorrow is not promised to us. So let's stop putting things on hold and just go for it.

God bless everyone, and my thoughts and prayers are with the entire Jackson family during this VERY shocking and painful time.

It was a sad and shocking day to find out the loss of Michael Jackson.  He was an Icon that will forever live on through his music.  I grew up listening to the Jackson 5 and still enjoy all the songs that he sang as a young child.  With all his amazing accomplishments throughout his lifetime, all the hits and videos that were performed by him made him a household name.  Just one of the many songs/videos that sticks out for me was Black and White..it was such a meaningful song,  the video with the lyrics are something we all need to live by.  He may have been controversial in his later years, but no one can deny that he was the King of pop.  May he rest in peace.

Don't have time to write a whole lot, being "on the road" but just wanted to say how saddened and shocked by this sad news.  Yes, I am in agreement with ya'll no matter what, he was an amazing talent and brought so much to the world of music.  His mark on music will certainly NEVER die.  Thanks for starting this thread Sam...Chris is a HUGE MJ fan, and would want us to respect and honor his contribution to the music/entertainment world.

Wow, I'm loving reading all of these! That really is an amazing video Pink, the boy could DANCE for sure! And I just remembered, we had view masters when I was little (remember those?) and had the Michael Jackson thriller slide for it. I was scared of that when I was real little too. And Storie, I loved reading about your Grandma dancing to Billie Jean. That's priceless Smile

MJ was HUGE in my life. I have always loved him. I was able to see him perfrom live as little boy in the Jackson 5 and then took my son, when he was a little boy, to see him perform in the Victory concert at RFK stadium. What a thrill. Such a traiblazer in dance and the vidoe world. His music was phenomenal. I can't even begin to pick a favorite. I dug around and found 8 Cd's and also had Off The Wall in an album plus the Thriller video. I always loved Off The Wall, Rock With You, Man in the Morror, Heal the World and on and on.
Most of you don't know that I have had over 30 years of dance training(tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, classical ballet) So you know he played a part in my dance.
My Mom alsp loved MJ. She's groovin in heaven with him. When Josh was 6 he dressed up like him for Halloween. I still have the red jacket(Thriller) and my mom made him a  sequinedglove. We fixed his hair and he thought he was IT.
I agree with you all. Yes he was strange, but noone can ever take away the fact that he was a genius. Taken from us too soon just like John Lennon on Dec. 8th,1980.
RIP Michael

Ok, ya'll gotta try this LMAO

http://www.sr.se/P1/src/sing/#

Type in "you're butt is mine"...the "mine" part is MJ. Then type in "Shamone" rofl Hours of fun right here. It's software that basically sings what you type in. However, there are plenty of words that aren't loaded in there yet.
