Hawaii player dies after collapsing while home in Arizona
HONOLULU -- A University of Hawaii football player has died in Arizona after collapsing while playing basketball, authorities said.
Mitch Farney was pronounced dead Tuesday after being taken to a hospital.
Farney, 20, was home in Phoenix on winter break.
Farney redshirted in 2006, his first season with the Warriors. He was used mostly on the scout team this past season, and was in the process of transferring to Weber State.
Hawaii receivers coach Ron Lee called Farney "a wonderful young man," who was looking forward to playing against Hawaii next season.
