Boston College did not even have to take the field to move up in the rankings.
The Eagles climbed one spot to the No. 2 ranking in the latest Associated Press poll released Sunday afternoon.
Ohio State (8-0) remained atop the poll, receiving 57 first-place votes and 1,612 points from a panel of writers and sportscasters.
Boston College (7-0) was given two of the other three first-place votes despite being idle Saturday. The Eagles benefited from an outstanding performance by Rutgers, which ousted then-No. 2 South Florida on Thursday night.
Louisiana State (7-1) climbed two spots to third following Saturday night's thrilling 30-24 victory over Auburn. Matt Flynn capped an impressive second-half comeback with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Demetrius Byrd with one second left, helping the Tigers rebound from their triple-overtime loss at Kentucky on October 13.
Oklahoma (7-1) remained fourth after barely surviving for a 17-7 triumph over unranked Iowa State on Saturday.
Oregon (6-1) rounded out the top five, followed by West Virginia (6-1), Arizona State (7-0) Virginia Tech (6-1), Southern California (6-1) and Florida (5-2).
The idle Sun Devils, one of five undefeated teams remaining in the Football Bowl Subdivision, received the last remaining first-place vote. The Trojans and Gators are tied for ninth with 1,107 points apiece.
South Florida (6-1) fell nine spots to 11th as a result of Thursday's 30-27 loss to the Scarlet Knights. Kansas (7-0) moved up three spots to 12th, followed by Missouri (6-1), Kentucky (6-2) and South Carolina (6-2).
Idle Hawaii (7-0) climbed one spot to 16th, followed by Texas (5-2), California (5-2) and Michigan (6-2). The Wolverines moved up five spots after Saturday night's impressive 27-17 victory at Illinois - their sixth straight win.
Georgia (5-2) completed the top 20 while Virginia (7-1) and Alabama (6-2), both newcomers to the poll, are ranked 21st and 22nd, respectively.
Auburn (5-3) fell five spots to 23rd while Penn State (6-2) and Rutgers (5-2) completed the poll. The Nittany Lions and Scarlet Knights also are new to the rankings this week.
Tennessee, Texas Tech, Cincinnati and Kansas State all fell from the rankings. _________________
