BUCCANEERS ANNOUNCE 2008 PRESEASON SCHEDULE
The National Football League today announced Tampa Bay’s four preseason opponents
for the 2008 season, featuring home games against the New England Patriots and
Jacksonville Jaguars and road contests against the Miami Dolphins and Houston
Texans.
Tampa Bay kicks off its preseason schedule on the road against the Miami Dolphins the
week of August 7-11. This will be the ninth consecutive year that the Sunshine State’s
first two football franchises have met in the preseason, and the 17th time they have
played since 1991. Overall, the Dolphins hold a 14-8 series advantage.
The following week, on Sunday, August 17, at 8:00 p.m. ET, the Buccaneers will open
their home schedule in front of a nationally televised audience on the NFL Network,
welcoming the 2007 AFC Champion New England Patriots. This will mark the
Buccaneers’ first-ever appearance on the NFL Network and the second consecutive
year that Tampa Bay hosts New England in the preseason. The Buccaneers lead the
overall series 6-1.
Tampa Bay will conclude its home portion of the preseason schedule the week of August
21-25 when it plays host to the Jacksonville Jaguars. These intrastate rivals have met
six times in the preseason, with the Jaguars leading the series 4-2.
For the seventh consecutive preseason, the Buccaneers conclude their exhibition slate
against the Texans. The Buccaneers, who will travel to Houston for this year’s meeting
on August 28th or August 29th, lead the all-time series 5-1.
News Channel 8 WFLA-TV is the official home of Buccaneers preseason football, and
will produce three preseason games in 2008: at Miami, vs. Jacksonville and at Houston.
This preseason will also mark the fourth year that WFLA-TV will broadcast the games in
High Definition.
