Bucs wrap up first OTA

TAMPA - The Bucs just wrapped up their first offseaon workout, but the end didn’t come soon enough for LB Matt McCoy.

McCoy left the field early after apparently cutting his right hand during a drill. He later returned but didn’t participate in the 11-on-11 drills.

The biggest surprise of the workout was probably the presence of WR Joey Galloway. Galloway was expected to miss most of the offseason workouts because he is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, but he participated in the early individual portion and even caught a few passes.

To no one’s surprise, Chris Simms didn’t make it out. Simms, who the Bucs are believed to be trying to trade, is working out on his own and may not even take part in the team’s mini camp later this summer.

Simms wasn’t the only no-show. QB Brian Griese, RB Earnest Graham and LT Luke Petitgout didn’t show either. Griese was said to be tied up with a charity event and couldn’t get away for this week’s workouts. Graham’s absence wasn’t explained and Petitgout is recovering from season-ending knee surgery.

Two players who are also recovering from surgeries but did work out on their own were RB Cadillac Williams and LB Cato June. Williams spent some of his time doing a plow-horse drill in which he ties himself to a harness and pulls a Bucs trainer behind him as he walks forward.

One of the best plays of the day was turned in by S Tanard Jackson. Jackson, wearing 36 now instead of the 28 he gave to Warrick Dunn, picked off a pass that Michael Clayton failed to handle as a he ran a slant route.

Sounds good, doesn't it??!!  Hope they don't put Graham on the back burner for Caddy and Dunn...he contributed so much and gave the Bucs 110% last year.  Good play by Jackson, too!!
