Ravens may have interest in Chris Simms
"With the two suspended players, that gives us 52 players on the current roster," general manager Ozzie Newsome said. "We will add another player before the opener against the Bengals."
Will that new player be a quarterback or a cornerback?
Troy Smith was hospitalized recently with a tonsil infection and Kyle Boller is sidelined indefinitely with a throwing shoulder injury believed to be a slightly torn labrum.
Boller has told teammates he expects to be eventually be ruled out for the season, but he hasn't been placed on injured reserve or scheduled for surgery yet as he undergoes more tests on his damaged right shoulder. With Bramlet cut, rookie Joe Flacco is the lone healthy quarterback.
The Ravens are expected to explore the quarterback market and are rumored to have interest in Chris Simms, who got his wish when he was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Simms, 28, had asked to be traded or released during the offseason. He completed 19 of 30 passes for 155 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in three preseason games.--Carroll County Times |

Would be a cheap pick up for them, and might just be the answer as well. _________________

Flacco, though talented, is not ready. He got the opening game start by default.
Smith, who has infected tonsils, is/was simply a fill-in till Flaco is ready. (I hate saying that about a Buckeye and I wish him all the best. But unless he really shines, he is just a fill in.)
I think this would be a good fit for Simms. Who gives Flacco someone with NFL starting experience to watch and learn from.
ps. Baltimore does have a suspect "O" line. Could spell trouble for a rookie. I hope Flacco doesn't get beat up this Sunday. I know it's the Bengals, but we all know about rookies. _________________ "When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading!" |

Season over for Ravens QB Boller
By DAVID GINSBURG, AP Sports Writer
2 hours, 50 minutes ago
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP)—Quarterback Kyle Boller was placed on injured reserve by the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday, ending his season and perhaps his stay with the team.
Boller hurt his shoulder in Baltimore’s second preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings and has not played since.
Coach John Harbaugh described the injury as either a torn labrum or other damage that would render Boller unable to play this year.
Boller was to enter his sixth NFL season, all with Baltimore. He is in the final year of his contract. Boller entered the preseason competing for the starting job with Troy Smith and top draft pick Joe Flacco, who ultimately won the job because of Boller’s injury and Smith’s lengthy battle with infected tonsils. _________________
