Having only one day left at the plant, I can now vent what has needed to be said.
When I was hired into the plant, I was hired as permanent full-time. Hey, cool seniority employee in no time. I was hired before any ete contract came out, and was told by HR that we in orientation were the first to be hired in as Permanent Full-Time. At that time, dcchourlyjobs, com was hiring employees for the Belvidere plant as permanent full-time.
After being given the ete contract, and told to sign it or go home, I signed it. Funny thing is the contract says I will be considered terminated if I am layed off, and could never work for Chrysler again. hilarious.
What happens next, I get terminated for no cause, just a brief period of time. I am then rehired as and ete. Now that I am rehired as an ete, I find out that I did not resign my contract after being terminated. What this means, I am currently working under a contract that I did not sign, and actually should have been made a full-time employee sometime in 2006. I know that terminated employees have to resign this contract, because anyone that was laid-off, and brought back had to resign the contract. I was terminated without notice, and then brought back, actually never left the plant.
I brought this to General Holifield's attention at his town hall meeting, and he was stunned that this could have happened. His response. I will look into it, and take your name. Short end of the stick I'm not listening, because you opened up a can of worms.
When we had our meeting about the contract, what is in it, and who gets bent over, and who doesn't, I brought up the question, what happens with those that are not under the ete contract, or any contract at all. Well everyone has a contract at this plant. Great does that mean I am full-time. Our service rep says, I want your name, and number, and I will get back to you as soon as I can. I think he dropped my name and number in the toilet, because he does not remember me, and never did call as soon as he could. He even told Littlejohn that he would get together with him, and work through this. Never happened.
So my friends short end of the story, don't open a can of worms unless you plan on going fishing. If anyone would like documented proof that I was terminated, and brought back I will gladly share this information. At this point in time I am just hoping that my brother gets in, I know that if I could have swayed them into fighting for my rights, my brother would have been hired in because he has more seniority than me, and everyone knows that the temps who have been out their for 8 years would have to be hired in if people would have stood up and dug into this can of worms.
I myself do not think I could go back and work at this plant if asked to, I feel that dealing with this issue has caused me unfair termination, and know that many more will be stepped on before Chrysler is resold. It's a shame that I have to say this, because I am the third generation to work out at this plant, and feel that my brother and I will be the last generation in this plant unless something changes.
Take care, and good luck with future endeavors.
