What are the rules for this under the new contract?
I already went to www.uaw.org and did a search, but found nothing! |

5 days paid for immediate family (spouse, parent, child, stepchild) I'm 99% sure it also covers in laws.
3 days paid for grandparent, great grandparent, sister, brother, grandchild or step siblings.
Time commences with date of death and ending with the tenth normally scheduled work day after the date of death, providing you attend the funeral.
All bereavement must now be done with the kiosks (that have scanners). You fill out an online form and scan your copies of funeral attendance and obituary. Sometimes if relation to deceased isn't obvious, they will ask for further proof. This is an issue to ALWAYS talk with your steward about. They can arrange extra time (unpaid except for contractual language of course) in some cases. Sometimes the body of deceased it being held, sometimes the body is being flown in from another country.....there can be many obstacles so ALWAYS contact your steward!!!
Hopefully that answered your question Brian...if you were looking for something else let me know, I'll try to help. |

Mom22,
Was the immediate family changed in this contract? I thought it used to be 3 days paid but 5 days excused. |

| It is 5 days paid for immediate family (spouse, parent, child, stepchild). It was that way in the last agreement also. You don't get 5 days for in laws though. |

What is the required paperwork for this? I have spoken with a coworker who said he gave paperwork from the funeral home and was denied. We seem to be finding more and more changes from our previous contract to this new one as days go by.
I did find this information at: www.uaw.org/contracts/07/chrysler/hrly/chry_hr16.php

Improved Bereavement Pay Language
The bargaining committee was successful in simplifying the previous complicated language as it pertains to time off for bereavement. Upon ratification, an eligible employee may take either 3 days or 5 days of bereavement within a 10-day window (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and holidays) commencing with the date of death.
In case of a seven-day operation, the 10-day period excludes regular off days and holidays. |
So you can return to work and then go back out on bereavement all within the 10-day window of the death right? |
