· Quote

I just have to share my find. I seen that RC plane/boat/car thing on TV for $80 and started looking on the internet to see what people had to say about it. During my search I read people talking about how the Areo Ace RC Plane/Jet sold at Toy's R Us for $30 is easy to fly and is well worth the $30 price tag.

If your still interested let me clear some things up that threw me at first. I call it a Jet/Plane because there are currently two styles out on the shelf but both under the same name and barcode/SKU. The older style is a BI-plane style and the new one is a jet. Currently we (my boys and I) own 3 of the jet and one of the BI-plane styles. We like the new jet style better and it flys faster. The jet style seems to be more durable too. The age for this plane is 8+ but a 4 year old can fly it if it's not too windy outside. Don't be fooled by the age or price, this plane/jet is owned by many serious RC plane people. I've done my share of reading on their hobbie forums and that's why I decided to go buy the first one over a week ago. I must have close to 300 hours of fly time on the first jet I bought. The jet comes pre-built, only the stickers included need to be put on if you wish. There are A,B or C freq. so if you own three jets one of each, all three could be flew at the same time without any problem. Two jets using the same freq. can't be flew at the same time. I've read that B and C are the better than A so look on the back of the box to see which it is. It comes with a two-stick remote control unit that runs on 6AA batteries and doubles as a charger for easy charges in the field or front yard with no need to have an ac outlet near by. With 300 hours / 30 charges or more I'm still using the first 6AA batteries I started with over a week ago. It takes only 10 minutes to charge and should fly about 10 minutes plus or minus how much you run the gas. No need to worry about hurting anything (car, house, window) this jet is made out of flex-foam and will not hurt anything and best yet, it's very hard to hurt the jet so even after several crashes in the street it still flys over and over again. The jet has two motors/blades built in the wings so they are protected from being damaged. I hit our van antenna with a wing of the jet from a 60 - 70 foot dive at I'd say 15 -25+ mph and it didn't put more than a little chip in the foam. I thought for sure it would have ripped the wing off, but it didn't! Don't be fooled, the jet will fly high and will glide far under no power. When the built in rechargeable battery in the jet dies after about 10 minutes of flight it could happen when your 60 foot in the air and since the steering is done by the right/left motor no power means no steering. When you think you have flew it for 6 minutes or so, try and keep it low and close to you so you don't loose it in a tree or on the roof. Mine has been in more than one tree and on the roof three times.

Here's a tip I learned from reading what others have done to their jets. The jet is so light weight a gust of wind will cause it to go nose up and then it does a nose dive or if high enough the wind keeps pushing your jet further and further away from you no matter how hard you try to fly back. If you put a screw in the nose of the jet it helps it hold it's own to keep the nose down and fight the wind. Play around and see what might work best for you. Remember, that if you do have a screw in the nose now it might scratch the car if hit.

If you want to know more, just ask me. If you buy one, please post and tell me what you think about it. If you want more reading about it you can goto this hobbie forum and read what those guys have to say about it.
