Recently speaking with other team leaders, it seems several people have received DLO's and lost all of their GR's for walking off the line to use the restroom. Back in the Neon years only one time did I get close to walking off the line after waiting almost 40 minutes and yes my group leader was aware of my need for a bathroom break. Remember all bathroom breaks are to be emergencies only, so state it as such when requesting one. If you have a medical problem and need to use the restroom often, get paperwork from your doctor and give it to the medical department to avoid any chance of a DLO.

Here are a list of tips, all of which I have used:

1. Page the team leader using PFS (leaves a time stamp of call)
2. Page group leader when nearing 20 minutes of wait.
3. If nobody answers TL or GL page, page low stock and ask them to please pass along the information.
4. Call the plant emergency line and ask them to notify your area manager that you have been waiting 20+ minutes and can't wait much more before you have to walk off the line.

If you follow all of the above, the chance that management will get a DLO to stick is very slim.

I agree with you on this one Brian. Make sure you always follow the steps before you take drastic action.....ie Walking off the line.

It always pays to cover yourself in case you need it.

On a side note however.....there is not a team leader in that whole building who is ever too busy to give a bathroom break. (Unless they are on-line of course) Trust me on this one....there is always time to give a break.

If your team leader is going to be on-line for the day, then plan accordingly for it. Now that I am back on the line I always see if my TL is going to be on-line or not. If she is then I make sure I use the bathroom when time permits.
