I was asked to work the changeover week, which I told them that I would. We were scheduled to work sat and sun also. The Friday before the week off, the supervisor on days told me that I was no longer working.
I guess my committeeman had "requested" to canvass by department senority to work the down week, and management agreed. Needless to say by the time I got word of this, the committeeman had already dipped out for the week (big suprise) along with everybody else I could talk to to get this straightened out.
In our contract, it states that if the changeover week is more than 10 days then the union will be notified, and can "request" to canvass by department senority, but management can refuse. It also says that any work to be done during the changover, will be canvassed by department, by shift, by senority. During the changover they only worked my shift.
I have a feeling I got a bit jacked by my committeeman along with management... anybody else feel the same? The problem is that if I file a greavance, I have to go through my committeeman and steward, and the committeeman is the one that pushed for this. |
