Hey Brian, Just wondered why the link that was always on the uaw1268 site that led people to this forum is no longer there today? Just curious. |

I just found out about it myself. The webmaster, (Dan / AKA: Funguy) as seen here:

Dan,
Can it be under the links pages with the rest of those many links? Would you be fine with me or you posting this explanation with why it was removed on the forum? Others have already noticed and posted it on the forum.

Hi Brian
I have been working on getting all the unauthorized links off the site. I somehow forgot about that links page. I removed that until I can have those sites approved.
Here is the problem, if I link to a site, I am implying that the UAW supports that site and the opinions on it. Because the site is "official" union business I can use the registered UAW logo and have UAW in the name of the site. I can link to anything that has to do with official UAW business and to sites that are approved by the international union.
As far as message boards and forums are concerned, the only type I can use would require a database of every union members name and e-mail, placed on the SQL server so each member could obtain a secure password and username. Since I am going to be reworking the website from start to finish, Including a totally new format, I think that will be far in the future.
I'm sorry I had to do this so abruptly, but the webmaster of UAW.ORG was one of the people that critiqued the site and she said the links must go as soon as I got home. The assistant director of LUPA who is the webmaster of uawlupa.org also said more than once, "no unsecured message boards" on uaw local sites and "no unauthorized links".
Dan
PS: feel free to post this as an explanation if you want |

Thanks for the explaination Brian. This brings only one word to mind. CENSORSHIP. You might want to post a "sticky" about people updated their link in their "favorites". That's how I noticed. The link I had in my favorites that I clicked on was actually through the uaw1268 website then I would click on the forum link. When I went there yesterday I was quite surprised to find it gone and got a little chuckle and said to myslef "yep, they're at it again". lol... I agree most people know this forum you run is independent but I'd be willing to bet most found their way here through that link. Thanks for all your work keeping this up and running. It is a very good source for BAP info. |

Pretty funny before I posted this my Karma rating was 3. Now it's a 2. Who did I piss off by speaking the truth? If this forum was completely pro UAW, pro 1268, pro Chrysler somehow I don't think the powers that be would have made a fuss. But due to the fact that people do voice their beliefs and opinoins that are critical at times and are things that may not be what the UAW would approve then it becomes a link that must come down immediately. Again that is a form of censorship. Yes, I understand it's their rules/policy and their right to do this but I will still call it censorship. Both this forum and the UAW 1268 site should monitor their hit counters to check the site traffic. I'll bet the UAW1268 traffic will drop more than they realize by dropping that link. A lot of people simply logged on there to get to the forums and now they will be bypassing UAW1268 all together because that was their main reason to go there. I'm sure the link to this forum was by far the most used one. Like 99% of the people really care about the "approved" garden club link. And I mean no offense to you gardeners out there. Just my opinion. We'll see. |

I'd like to say that I am NOT surprised that the International Union has requested that this forums link (along with other links) be removed from the "OFFICIAL" UAW 1268 site. This forum is an UNOFFICIAL forum and is outside their control, therefore they wish not to link to it. Their reasoning here is very understandable and I respect it.
Google is your friend and using just two words UAW TALK (with or without the space) should give others the link to this forum.
To help improve the anonymity of this board, I will open it up again to allow GUEST posts in every section. People can now feel more freely to speak their mind on this forum with better anonymity. By opening the forum up to GUEST posts we do risk more chances of porn SPAM, but I promise you I will delete the SPAM as fast as I (MODs) can.
I'd like to make note that Dan / (UAW1268 webmaster) has asked me to remove him from being a MOD on this forum, which I have done as requested. Dan has worked hard with the locals website and there is some GREAT information on there. He has also been a longtime supporter of this forum and like anyone else, he will continue to be a user on this forum as long as he wishes. |
