Below is an idea I received from JPaint (a MOD on this forum) and I wanted to share it with everyone. I like the idea and although the board currently to me seems simple to me I understand how people who have never used a forum before it might be overwhelming. After all, I've been working with computers and forums since the Commodore 64 in the 80's. Please read his ideas below and feel free to comment with your own ideas. If everyone likes the new ideas, I will try to start and make the board changes over the next month. Thank you.

Hey Brian, I just wanted to share some thoughts about the board, and an idea to try to increase interaction. It seems we have a lot of people who visit the boards, but for one reason or another, they don't join in the discussion. I think a big reason for this is that the main forum page is very overwhelming. We have so many different areas and different topics and I think the site would benefit from some simplification. A lot of the different areas could be merged into more broad ranging topics, so you could potentially cut down the 22 different categories into 5 or 6. I think that would make the boards a lot less intimidating, and could potentially increase the interaction a bit. Here's what I was thinking for the consolidated areas:
Welcome Public!
-An area anyone can post in, registered or otherwise
Announcements
-An area for official announcements, i.e. Union meetings, Saturday
schedules, etc.
Union News
-An area for confirmed or rumored, international or local Union news
Chrysler News
-An area for confirmed or rumored corporate news
Off Topic
-Anything Goes! An area for discussing anything
The Crew
-An area only visible to moderators
These are only an idea, and obviously, being the administrator, it's entirely up to you. Just thought I'd share my thoughts. |
