From what I've heard, those campaign funds belong to the candidates to do with as he/she pleases - but because of negative publicity, they usually sit on it for future campaigns, donate to other campaigns, etc. |

ron paul has not spent much at all, he bought a few radio spots in nh and a few tv spots but thats about it. ron paul does not have to spend much because his local supporters just pay for it them selfs with out asking for a dime from ron paul.
ron paul supporters have paid for planes, blimps, yard signs, hand signs and any thing else that helps get the word out about ron paul. how many of the others that are running for the white house can say that about the people that support them.
just like the 4.3 million ron paul got in one day, he did not have to do a thing for that money and he had no control over it. a ron paul supporter set it all up and did this on his own.
you might as why, its because ron paul is the only honest man running for the white house and the people know it! |

Paul campaign balloons as cash keeps rolling in
GOP hopeful is hanging tough with top-tier foes
By BENNETT ROTH
Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle Washington Bureau
WASHINGTON — Ron Paul, the GOP presidential contender from Lake Jackson, used to be a low-budget kind of guy, flying commercially to reach campaign stops and buying campaign supplies at Sam's Club.
But now, flush with cash from an impressive online fundraising operation, the maverick Paul has upgraded his operation. He now crisscrosses the country on private charter jets. And avid supporters have even rented a blimp to spread the word about the "Ron Paul Revolution."
Once considered a minor candidate in a large field of candidates, Paul is now close to breaking a $12 million fundraising goal for the final quarter of the year as his volunteers stage an Internet money-raising event Sunday tied to the anniversary of the 1773 Boston Tea Party.
Paul, the only candidate to release up-to-the-minute tallies of campaign receipts, has raised $11.4 million for this three-month period.
If the Texas lawmaker beats his target, he will have raked in more campaign cash than the other GOP contenders did at the end of the latest reporting period, including early front-runner Rudy Giuliani, who raised $11.6 million.
Anthony Corrado, a campaign finance expert at Colby College in Maine, said that Paul could well end up leading the GOP presidential pack in fundraising for the final quarter, which ends Dec. 31.
"Ron Paul has had remarkable success raising money this year," said Corrado.
Up-to-date totals
Not only has Paul been successful, said Corrado, he does it as he "breaks all the rules of presidential fundraising."
He said Paul hasn't relied on a network of high powered fundraisers to collect large donations, as many of the top candidates such as Giuliani and Democrat Hillary Clinton have. Rather, Corrado said, Paul has "harnessed the power of the Internet," to bring in large sums of money from small donors.
Unlike Paul, the other candidates do not release up-to-date money totals. The fourth quarter fundraising figures do not have to be submitted to the Federal Election Commission until the middle of next month.
But Charles Black, a consultant to Sen. John McCain's campaign, conceded that the Arizona GOP senator's fundraising has not been keeping pace with Paul's this quarter. Black said many of the more prominent candidates raised much of their money earlier in the year and their major contributors have already donated the maximum allowed by law.
While Black said that he was surprised at Paul's impressive donation haul, he added that "it doesn't mean much" in terms of winning early primaries.
Paul still remains far behind the five top GOP candidates in national polls although he has made inroads in the early primary state of New Hampshire.
Jesse Benton, Paul's spokesman, acknowledged that there is a lag between the candidate's poll showing and his fundraising but said the surveys may not catch the intensity of the candidate's supporters, who may be more likely to show up to vote in a primary election.
Staffers added
The outpouring of financial support has allowed Paul to build up his campaign operation, which now has 100 staffers and is airing radio and television spots and sending mailers in the early primary states.
The cash cushion will also allow Paul to keep his campaign alive after the early January contests in New Hampshire and Iowa, Benton said. The campaign is considering hiring staff in Florida, which holds its primary Jan. 29 and campaigning in California, which along with a number of other big states will hold its primary on Feb. 5.
"We are working on spending every single penny," Benton said.
Chartered jets
The Paul campaign has also joined the club of candidates chartering private jets. Benton said the use of chartered jets has resulted in more efficient use of Paul's time, allowing him to reach more events in a day.
In addition, Benton said that Paul can now land at Angleton/Lake Jackson Airport near his home rather than taking commercial flights to Bush Intercontinental Airport, which entails a drive of an hour.
The Paul campaign has contracted with Blue Star Jets, a New York company that arranges private jet travel for clients. A light jet that carries up to four passengers costs about $1,200 an hour while a heavy jet that carries up to 14 passengers costs from $3,500 to $5,000 an hour, said company spokesman Marco Larsen.
To drum up financial support, Paul volunteers have embraced rebellious themes. Last month, supporters raised $4.2 million on Guy Fawkes Day, which marked the unsuccessful attempt in 1605 by Catholic rebels to assassinate King James I and blow up Parliament.
On Sunday, supporters hope to raise another $10 million by invoking the spirit of the 1773 Boston Tea Party, in which the colonists staged a protest against British taxation policies by dumping crates of tea in Boston Harbor. Organizers plan on holding a rally at the historic Faneuil Hall, where Paul's son, Rand, is scheduled to speak.
Offering perks
Meanwhile, other supporters have raised $236,000 to fly a blimp, which took off Friday from North Carolina. The blimp carries a banner inscribed with "Who is Ron Paul? Google Ron Paul."
Those who donate at least $5,000 are guaranteed a short ride on the blimp, which seats 15, including the two pilots, according to Bryce Henderson, a spokesman for the blimp effort.
"Like any company, we want to treat our best customers with perks," said Henderson.

Message from Ron (12/17/07)
What a day! I am humbled and inspired, grateful and thrilled for this vast outpouring of support.
On just one day, in honor of the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, the new American revolutionaries brought in $6.04 million, another one-day record. The average donation was $102; we had 58,407 individual contributors, of whom an astounding 24,915 were first-time donors. And it was an entirely voluntary, self-organized, decentralized, independent effort on the internet. Must be the "spammers" I keep hearing about!
The establishment is baffled and worried, and well they should be. They keep asking me who runs our internet fundraising and controls our volunteers. To these top-down central planners, a spontaneous order like our movement is science-fiction. But you and I know it's real: as real as the American people's yearning for freedom, peace, and prosperity, as real as all the men and women who have sacrificed for our ideals, in the past and today.
And how neat to see celebrations all across the world, with Tea Parties from France to New Zealand. This is how we can spread the ideals of our country, through voluntary emulation, not bombs and bribes. Of course, there were hundreds in America.
As I dropped in on a cheering, laughing crowd of about 600 near my home in Freeport, Texas, I noted that they call us "angry." Well, we are the happiest, most optimistic "angry" movement ever, and the most diverse. What unites us is a love of liberty, and a determination to fix what is wrong with our country, from the Fed to the IRS, from warfare to welfare. But otherwise we are a big tent.
Said the local newspaper: "The elderly sat with teens barely old enough to vote. The faces were black, Hispanic, Asian and white. There was no fear in their voices as they spoke boldly with each other about the way the country should be. Held close like a deeply held secret, Paul has brought them out of the disconnect they feel between what they know to be true and where the country has been led."
Thanks also to the 500 or so who braved the blizzard in Boston to go to Faneuil Hall. My son Rand told me what a great time he had with you.
A few mornings ago on LewRockwell.com, I saw a YouTube of a 14-year-old boy that summed up our whole movement for me. This well-spoken young man, who could have passed in knowledge for a college graduate, told how he heard our ideas being denounced. So he decided to Google. He read some of my speeches, and thought, these make sense. Then he studied US foreign policy of recent years, and came to the conclusion that we are right. So he persuaded his father to drop Rudy Giuliani and join our movement.
All over America, all over the world, we are inspiring real change. With the wars and the spying, the spending and the taxing, the inflation and the credit crisis, our ideas have never been more needed. Please help me spread them https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate in all 50 states. Victory for liberty! That is our goal, and nothing less.
Sincerely,
Ron
