I liked this opening statement
Quote:
UAW Local 961 in Detroit rejected late Friday the proposed labor contract with Chrysler LLC, a deal negotiated by its former local president, General Holiefield, who is now a UAW vice president.

Within the past week the automaker has gone to Local 1268 in Belvidere, which has a large percentage of temporary workers, and worked to "sweeten the pot" for them, the Free Press was told.

The temp workers are being promised the same $3,000 signing bonuses due permanent workers if the contract is ratified, plus preferential treatment if permanent jobs come open, a person familiar with the proposal said.

Sweeten the pot? Think they are worried, lol?

"Sweeten the pot" by giving ETEs preferential treatment "If permanent jobs come open"?  They could make us all permanent instantly with a stroke of their pen!  What do they mean, if they "come open?"  This is ridiculous.

They can talk all they want about sweeteners, but if it's not in black & white in the contract, it's all smoke and mirrors.  Ain't buying it, and I am voting NO.  Only regret is I have but one vote.  Too bad we're not in Chicago on this one (vote early and often).

Thats the whole problem, almost all the contract is smoke and mirrors. When you see what they didnt print in the highlights it gets clearer.
Embarassed   We just have to hope everyone reads all of it, not just the highlights.

I am curious as to how anyone has received the "sweeten the pot" information. Haven't we been on layoff for the last 2 weeks? Are there people from the company calling etes to give these offers? It just doesn't make any sense.

This is just a propaganda campaign by the International to try to win votes from those that may not be as educated to the issues as we are.  They're telling the press that they're going to give us something (3k bonus) that they've promised all along!  As far as the "job openings,"  are you kidding?  What jobs are going to be open when we're looking at a potential shutdown of third shift?  As was said above, they could make us all full-time easy enough.  If they want to get the votes, that would be the way to do it.  It wouldn't get my vote, but it would certainly get others.

If it is anything like St. Louis and they have an info meeting. Just come 1 1/2 late. All they do is waste time reading the highlights. We only had 10min of questions until it was start time.

We were there for 2 hours and really no time to ask any question. That is there plan just to waste your time and didn't give you enough time to ask all the question you want too.
